Hi there, i'm new...been a observer on this forum for a while and appreciate the clean up of the language.

These are my a/v specs:
system: Yamaha DSP1
dvd: Sony DVP-7700
monitor: Sony VW-10HT
Screen: 6' Stewart Matt.

Okay, so a while back I decided not to go to theatres for Bolly films but to rely on DVD....

Any chance of picking up a good copy of Earth 1947 on DVD.

ps. how was the movie compared to Bombay (which I own on DVD)

Cheers
Ek.

Pathe (FOX) owns UK rights and with Aamir Khan being quite popular in the film world at the mo (laregly due to his oscar nomination) we could sooner see Earth on DVD :)

I've only seen 1947 Earth on VHS. I don't think it's available on DVD, although I sincerely hope they decide to put it on DVD. I loved the movie, and personally I enjoyed it more than Fire (and not just 'cause I'm an Aamir Khan fan).

Eksohek, I've seen Bombay, too, and I would highly recommend 1947 Earth if you enjoyed Bombay. The two films are along the same line in that they both provide personal perspectives during large-scale tragedies. However, I enjoyed 1947 Earth more, simply because it dealt with such a huge historic event like partition in a very human way. The performances are amazing, especially that of Aamir Khan's. I was literally shocked/worried when I saw the climax. I think it's one of his best performances -- if not the best. The music by A.R. Rahman is also wonderful, which is another plus if you enjoyed Bombay for its music.

definitely aamir made this film really good with his brilliant performance.. i had read the book by bapsi sidhwa and hence the climax was not quite a surprise... but the way they showed it in the movie was great...

It's a great film - and a must to watch if you loved Bombay. But Earth is much less commercial and has a more sensitive and sensible approach to the events depicted. Bapsi Sidhwa's book doesn't end where the film does - so the ending is quiet different.
