The British Film Institute (bfi) will launch a major, nationwide project called ImagineAsia in April 2002. ImagineAsia will be an eight month celebration of the cinema cultures of India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan, including British-Asian work. It will reach major cities throughout England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland.

The project will include the world's first Indian cinema education pack for schools and colleges, as well as major seasons of films and talks at the National Film Theatre and other cinemas UK-wide. Videos will be released, there will be a range of education events, and books will be published on celebrated cinema personalities Yash Chopra and Nurjehan. Eminent film personalities like Aamir Khan, Shyam Benegal, Shekhar Kapur and Meera Syal have agreed to be patrons of the event.

ImagineAsia is the flagship of the bfi's new cultural diversity plans, dedicated to raising awareness of film cultures that relate to the UK's minority ethnic communities.

It's good to see Asian cinema getting such a large and wide viewing ... judging by the posters there should be a major amount of classic movies touring up and down the country!

Sorry guys - I screwed the title of this post up while trying to paste the link :turn:
