Sanjay thats a risk you have to take. However IMO you will get good entertainment if u focus more on the technical aspects as everything does have its lifespan. A DVD will lat more than a VHS tape and if you use precautions (like Cd/DVD cleaning fluid to wipe ur DVd surfaces and also clean ur DVD ROm drive) u can extend your DVD life by many years.,

As m/f Faddy would have said..you are a real TOSSER :D here...so relax. You asked for an opinion and you got one. If you are not satisfied with then shut up and focus on what you have actually asked, rather than screaming your you-know-what out.

Folks pls help this sissy here :) Maybe he needs some you-know-what to PERK him up ! :gob:

From all the PR for DVD, it is said the DVDs have a life span of 10-50 years.

There are many factors invovlved in these assumptions. (handling, storage and the type of DVD disk used for DVD products e.g DVD5, DVD9 & DVD18 and the quality of the DVD disk)

Ware and tare for DVDs usage from DVD mechine (lasaer degredation) should comply with the 10 -50 years assumption.

So if you bought CDs to replace Audio tapes than there shouldn't be that much of a differance in DVDs replaces VHS tapes.

But ware of disk is different to Quality of DVD product!

This maybe be true for other DVDs but doest apply to Indian DVDs - they degrade after a few plays because of the cheap silver media used; they are badly authored in the first place and replicated using media that doesn’t last. YRF, Video Sound, Eros and more recently DEI all use this silver discs that start giving errors or skips on playback; certain DVD players are more effect than others - seems a pot luck at the moment :(

I think in the end depends on choice of watching Indian films; they are definitely a few films worth getting on DVD but most are not worth the money.

If you're starting a collection on Indian DVDs, be selective on what you get.

my advice, don't buy Indian DVD's they will wear you out both mentally & financially as you will toss them out your window for being poor in quality and then you will be ready to kick youself, then you will buy the second one and the third and so on and tossing and kicking will go on on until it wears you out.

My Kuch Kuch Hota Hai YRF dvd has started freezing on a certain chapters. Upon close examination I found some dark wavy pattern on the dvd. Now if there is one dvd I really love it has to be KKHH so imagine how heart broken I am :( and I've watched it a million times. And I have kept the dvd very well so how can this occur? Is it the glue or adhesive used for the cover photo that has gotten on the side or is it a simple case of dvd rot, I will never know. I am pretty fed up with Indian companies.. My the other dvd that has similar problems is Maachis by DEi/Eros.
