The subtitles are oddly colored yellow but are clear and understandable.
Oh please, all American movies have yellow-colored subtitles.

It has been however, filled with a number of special features
Oh please, except for the scene unseen, what special features does it have? 7 languages of subtitles, and that's it.
For comparison, let's look at Mohabbatein or DDLJ. Those were loaded with a plethora of extras. Heck, even Aamir Khan's other release this year, Dil Chahta Hai, had more features. While the quality of DCH on dvd wasn't up to par with Lagaan's quality, DCH had something that Indian expect from a good dvd: interviews. The DCH dvd has a "making of" feature, as well as a look behind the music. Even the physical DVD itself came with more: in addition to an inlet, it came with two postcards. While Lagaan's inlet contains a nice insight into the production of the film, it would've been nicer to have some more commemorative stuff. The cover of Lagaan's dvd is quite boring. In fact, the same picture was used as a stomper on the dvd as the cover of the dvd. DCH was quite varied as packaging is concerned, and looks a lot more attractive. Menus in DCH's DVD are animated, and look very professional.
From Lagaan's dvd, I expected a lot more, especially considering how long we had to wait for it. I was hoping for a two dvd set containing:
- The movie (duh)
- Subtitles
- The deleted scene
- Interviews with each star
- An interview with AR Rahman and Javed Akhtar regarding the music
- Animated menus (and a song menu too)
- Trailers for Lagaan
- More info on the cast
Maybe if Lagaan wins an oscar and does well, we'll get a better dvd, but I wouldn't count on it.
