Surprised no one has ever mentioned CARAVAN on this site. A very enjoyable musical classic, Piya Tu Ab To Aaja and Dilbar Dil Se Pyaare is being churned out in remixes even today.

As for the prints, IndiaWeekly only stocks the SKY version and refuses to get the EROS brand for this title. After seeing the comparatives, it becomes clear that IW has no interest in giving its customers the better quality dvds currently available in the market.

:) :D

Rana, both are easily available - but I am not sure which was released first. Best place to get the Eros version is directly from Eros USA. I had problems with that respect, as I live in UK and Eros don't have the rights to sell this title in UK. Eventually got a friend in USA to buy it from Eros USA and ship it to me. The SKY version is not even worth $2.99.

Thanks Armaan.

EROS shots seem pretty good and I don't see any bluriness. Perhaps, authoring has no field averaging or PAL to NTSC or NTSC to PAL transfers. Armaan, you sent these shots from UK. Any chance this could be a R2 DVD and in PAL??

Had I known of this PQ (assuming Film-NTSC telecine for a NTSC DVD or Film to PAL telecine for a PAL DVD), I should have picked up this DVD long time ago.

Rana

P.S.

Anybody, any idea, if semi decent PQ on any of these:
Mera Saaya,
Raj Kumar (Shammi Kapoor),
Geeta Mera Naam,
Hatya,
Jawaab,
Lahu Ke Do Rang,
Love Story,
Victoria No 203.

I have purchased Caravan from USA, it is an all zone DVD so there should be no compatibility problems. Lahu Ke Do Rang and Love Story are both by SKY and the screenshots are available on this site. In my opinion, both are decent transfers, but Sunny has mentioned that Love Story is to be released by BEI. I have not seen the others.

I have the EROS/B4U version of Victoria 203 which is little better than Eros Caravan.

Did SKY steal the Eros transfer? I once rented a SKY DVD of Caravan that looked like the Eros shots above and was pseudo-progressive.

Could have been pirated. I'll rent it again to make sure.

Here is the cover of the one I rented:

Image

I blurred the name of the store I rented it from in the top right corner, and the numbers above the title are a sticker they put on the spine. It has the "I-DVD" sticker on the back that I've seen on DVDs I suspect are replicated.

The disc is gold and says Media Dimensions :?:

Some shots from the DVD. I will post more later.

We believe you DragunR2. Sky version 2 is sure very much similar to EROS. Am I seeing it correctly, it looks slightly better than EROS.

BTW, talking of piracy, I noted at one internet site certifying their DVDs (European/ Hollywood) to be public domain DVDs if the DVD was sourced from TV airing ?? Is it legit ??

None of the DVDs looks great. Eros and SKY 1 look somewhat brightened artificially. SKY 1 is very scratchy looking. SKY 2 is often too dark, even in bright outdoor scenes. SKY 2 is pseudo-progressive. I don't know if any of the transfers is derived from another.

Just because it was on TV doesn't mean it is PD, but some stuff that was on TV is. That's why you see a lot of cheap DVDs of The Boy in the Plastic Bubble starring John Travolta :)

The original Eros shots are not what the actual transfer looks like. They look to have been taken with a contrast/brightness filter on in the DVD capturing program.
