Any Toronto peeps know if Future Shop might also have the LAGAAN DVD by now, because I know that last year, BestBuy bought out all of Future Shops stocks from the T.S.E. If BestBuy has it available, could it be possible that Future Shop might have it as well?

Futureshop.ca has the lagaan dvd avilable on preorder for canadian $33.99 . THe date of release is 22nd Jan. I doubt if the futureshop stores will have it if the website doesnt.

Cool thanks for the info - its most probably anamorphic video. The DVD-18 is good as dual disc anyway - so I assume the film is on both sides of the disc to maintain a steady bit-rate?

Can't wait to get a copy!

Well!here is my humble opinion rather than a professional review!!
Dvd..single disc..one sided only, not a flipper!!!not good!

Extras..minimal, just bare bone!!one long deleted scene, regarding supply of cricket equipment by elizbeth, arrest of team and then hindi kinda treatment of Elizbeth by her brother!I am glad, it was not included, a bit formula stuff for hindi films..verdict!not impressive!
filmographies: just afew liners, I guess for introduction to non hindi mean other viewrs who are not familliar! minimal!
menues...very bad static, not even moving, with chapter lists, also very poorly done!!

subtitles...in all seven languages...default english on my sony prog scan latest player!

jacket art included...when dvd stop u see jacket art work..like other columbia pictures dvds like Matrix!

Languages! did not see a selection menue between english and hindi 5.1..beats me, how to retrieve English versioon!must be a trick!!!!very bad!
btw!no song menue!I don't care! but all songs are not chapter marked, except...ghanan..clouds are oming.
radha kaise..krishna birth day!
chale chalo...practice for match.
O palanhare.
could'nt find mitva and o re chori from menues! have'nt tried other wise!

Now..viewing!!
Sound..DD 5.1 very good!!!!channel separation excellent with good lower end punch!very dtailed all bells and chimbles!songs are done very nicely with good ambience and non overwhelming!dialogues are clean and upfront!the way a drama should be1!

Picture!widescreen 2:35:1, not 1.85:1 as mentioned in other , or most websites!mostly clean, let down for Columbia tristar release, blemishes visible here and there..bit rate averaging 5, with range, i would say around 4 to 7.....thumbs down for columbia..decent picture very comparable to pirated version that imho had a good anamorphic widescreen properly framed picture!!!

Over all!!decent barebone dvd!at least original...
plus...good 5.1 sound!! even on extra seen it is prologic! but i have never heard such a good prologic sound on extras before, regarding hindi movies mainly!5 languages subtitles..work or not i haven't tried.Let down for columbia tristar..it has been given a minimalistic hindi dvd treatment! At no time it looks like a CT release..just a damn hindi film!!that we have seen better, like DEI HDDS, KNPH and on top of my list FIZA by DEI/spark.

I am going to leave here! with ..every thing open!!

IMHO..very ordinary, let down, major ways..by CT/Sony films, I had seen a lot of hope HINDI dvds standing next to Hollywood dvds quality wise(my sweet wish and optimism) and thought it was a good start, that CT got involved and we will see Some great dvd and will be able to get rid of shitty eros and tricks played by DEI, one day they have it and next day they don;t..shitty politics..I am disappointed!

***If u guys have paid $10-12 as pirated version was selling at that time, IMO stick with it, except for some sound skip distrtion for a few seconds and burnt in English subtitles and might be, a bit lesser quality sound seperation..but may not be!as i don't have one to compare right now!
Dont waste ur hard earned money!!for another one!I did not buy pirated, so, i paid twice for kinda simillar quality!

I would like to request Ali, to give us a COMPARATIVE review with PIRATED ones as soon as he gets his hands on original!!
before we might again say aloud!PIRATED RULES!!!Sad!!

***some of u guys asked me source of purchase!
Best Buy store in North CA, bay area, East Palo Alto store,(they dont have listed on their website) where i went in person yesterday and paid my hard earned money$22.99 plus tax for purchase, after spending morning calling and confirming availability and ask for a copy to hold!!
I'll sell mine if any body wants?
Well here i insert it !!so u guys can take ur take on this!Ali U first..my friend!Invited!!

hmmm, that sounds disappointing. I'll still have to get it as I don't have the pirate and the 5.1 sound is the most important factor for me. As for the English and Hindi 5.1, I think they mention English as well because a lot of the dialogues are in English. I doubt they have two different tracks with one completely dubbed in English, but anyone can correct me if I'm wrong.
