There seem to be at least two versions of this film on DVD. Which is better?

Hate to say this but buy the Yashraj version. The one from Eros sucks big time :D

i was wondering this question myself. i was going to go for eros dvd when i saw it was going for $2.10 on their website. and now it is going for $5.99 at neha, $4.99 at IW. Now, i will simply wait for any other releases; possibly shemaroo or something. jb, can you grab couple screenshots for us.

anyway JB, you should watch your mouth. Eros might not mind, but Yashrajfilms may not be able tolerate you being abusive to their competitors. ??? :oops: :O

Forget to mention, if you choose Eros at a cut rate of $2.10 expect the cut version at 155 mins. Where as, Yashraj's version is 163 mins. :D So now you understand why the price difference? :p

Or if you go the way sknath advises, weigh the cost of the blank media and a rental copy, you will still be in the hole verses Eros price at $2.10. :D

Oh, sknath seems you are becoming a staunch advocate of bootlegging! and who say you can't teach old dogs new tricks! :p

I have been advcating bootlegging of all non-BEI ( and a few EVP and SD) dvds... since a long time anyways :) My whole point is..why should I pay Pirates for doing my dirty job ! :D

This is Eros and YRF we're talking about. Quality doesn't enter into the equation. We're talking about crap and less expensive crap.

Get the replicated YRF version if you must have this movie on DVD. If the YRF hologram is weird looking and not as detailed as the official hologram, it is a replicate.

I read somewhere that the EROS version includes the colour scene of the song 'Dil ki kahani rang layee hai'. I have the YRF version (horrible DVD) and this song is black and white - but the scene after the song is longer than the colour version as Guru Dutt decided to shorten the scene when he re-filmed this song. Don't know if this helps swing the vote but maybe someone could release a version like the Esquire VHS version that had both the black and white and colour scene back to back ... or maybe some Indian DVD company could employ seamless branching to give the viewer a choice of which version they watch :D
