Well, finally, I got hold of one copy, on insistence of My Bro in law, who said they were good value and as good as orig, and devdas is better than orig..I could not stay away challenging him to send me a copy to compare with originals with my own eyes!!

FIRST thing FIRST..They are stated ANAMORPHIC..But damn thing is NOT ANAMORPHIC...they are PSEUDO ANAMORPHIC..Mark my WORDS!! PSEUDO ANAMORPHIC..

PICTURE QUALITY!! Ab kaya boloun, I wont buy them even for $5 for my collection..but thats me..

I compared DEVDAS to start with, which was CRAP on the orig one too!!

2 in one is WORSE, UNWATCHABLE, for me!! But thats ME!!
They have used VARIABLE BIT RATE, making bit rate used effectively, so, some scenes appear darker, overall, picture has a blur, esp on motion, and PIXEL artifacts GALORE>>

***So again, I'll repeat..IT ALL DEPENDS, HOW YOU WATCH YOUR DVDS!
FOR MAJORITY...VIEWERS it will be MORE THAN SUFFICIENT and WILL MORE THAN ENOUGH serve the purpose, even 3 in one!! Picture will fill the screen!! :baaa: :nopity:

Media used LOOKS better and kinda more GOLDISH, so will last...

So...VERDICT..MAJORITY..GO FOR IT!!If u can get it CHEAP and MEDIA is OK..not SELF DESTRUCTING!

BTW..are Disney SELF DESTRUCTING DVDS r OUT?

I heard it is going to be SINGLE LAYER(compromised) low bit rate?

If I dont like them, that is a different story! :baaa:

During my recent visit to Toronto, I bought following 2in1s. I was mainly looking for the Yashraj DVDs (not ready to pay US $20 for each) and some of the new movies. I paid canadian $7 (US $5) for each dvd. Most of the disks have gold media

Aan (1952) / Andaz (1949)
Awaara / Barsaat (1949)
Beta / Mr. India
Bobby / Julie
Company / Qayamat
Deewane / Dhadkan
Des Pardes / Hare Rama Hare Krishna
Devdas(2002) / Devdas (1955)
Dosti / Teesri Manzil
Dum / Saathiya
Duniya / Mashaal
Khilona / Milan (1967)
Prem Geet / Prem Rog

I also got pirated DVDs following five movies packed in one box (the box which can hold five DVDs - around 2 to 3 inch thick box). I paid canadian $23 (total for 5 movies) and luckily all the disks have gold media.

dumb question.. but how do you folks determine what media is being used....

i notice on some Eros DVD, the cover would state "GOLD" .. and most of the other dvds would not mention anything.

i wonder what media does shemaroo use!!!

shuman, when we say "gold media" we are just referring to the colour of the underside of the disk.

vijay, are all your yash raj pirates exact copies of the originals? if so, where did you buy them?

and arsh, i think you had a pleasant experience with a 2 in 1 compared to mine. i made the mistake of buying a non-Vision 2 in 1 dvd and the pic quality is terrible. i have two Vision 2 in 1's and the pic quality is vastly superior to the non-Vision 2 in 1. has anyone else noticed the relative qualities between the different 2 in 1 brands?

What's the likelyhood that if a label says VISION, it really is VISION DVD and not a nth generation copy of a pirate or a nth generation copy of a genuine. I got duped by buying YRF labelled dupes and the content was a copy of much worst DML.

You can't trust even the original labels, forget about the pirates.

I must say, some early 2in1s were even better than current originals (MANN). Some are really anamorphic as well. Some are on Gold media, many are not. Some dupe makers put in genuine effort in giving good quality, most don't.

I know this is most dumb question on this thread, but what is ANAMORPHIC, how do u tell if a dvd is anamorphic? I know Ali Baba 40 Chor is anamorphic, is it to with the widescreen?

Details are avail here and there.

In short:

Using Power DVD or any other PC player:
If settings are for the option to maintain AR, then obviously anamorphic DVD will produce a 16:9 picture and a non-anam DVD will give a 4:3 pic.

Using DVD player and a 4:3 TV:
Set the DVD player as if you are monitoring on a 16:9 TV. Anamorphic DVD will produce a vertically stretched picture. Setting the DVD player setting back for 4:3 TV, pic will be back to normal.
For a non-anamorphic DVD, this setting makes no difference in picture AR, whether you setting is for a 4:3 TV or for a 16:9 TV.
What Arsh called a Pseudo-anamorphic, is a non-anamorphic but vertically stretched picture. On a 4:3 TV, you must watch it vertically stretched. I wouldn't call it Pseudo-anamorphic. I would call it Defective DVD.

Using DVD player and a 16:9 TV:
Never tried it.

Will be happy too, yaar!! i'll grab a couple of both HTHS/DEVDAS side by side!!

Now I am a proud owner of one disc, gifted to me..

But, If u ask me, I was disappointed, It is another STEP BACKWARDS along with MANY OTHERS in HINDI DVD HISTORY!

*** If some one, can kindly locate me DEVDAS ORIG and HTHS screen shots link threads, that would make my job a bit easier..thnx in advance :baaa:
