Fremantle Home Entertainment have announced the release of a full 15 hour long abridged, digitally re-mastered version of Mahabharat: Collector's Edition box set, the subtitled Indian television series, for 6th October 6th. The series originally aired in the UK for two years on BBC from 1991-1993 and achieved viewing figures peaking at 5 million. Produced and directed by B.R. Chopra, one of India's most eminent film directors, along with Ravi Chopra, the original 94 episodes which ran for over 60 hours, have been edited down to a 5 disc set. In full frame with a Dolby Stereo soundtrack, extras include an 8-page booklet, whilst the recommended retail price will be £59.99
This is based upon the epic verse of the same name written by Rishi Ved Vynasa, an ancient Himalayan mystic, philosopher and thinker. It is a historic story of sibling rivalry interwoven with Hinduism and the mythological history of India and the most cherished of all Indian classics. It contains complex sub-stories of philosophy, divinity, adventure, bravery and betrayal and is also one of the world's most significant treatises on karma, reincarnation and yoga.
Theres a small picture of the boxset on the above link, seems they using about 23-24 of the episodes to make the 15 hour boxset, or edit the whole 90 hours to make 24-25 new edited episodes
