I would recommend, the latest and greatest, best bang for ur bucks..AN ABSOLUTE BARGAIN, IMHO

Prog scan/dvd audio/sacd/mp3/jpeg/VCD/SVCD/CDR/RW/DVD+- R/DVD +- RW

Last and not the least, play PAL PROG on DVDS too, R1/R0, on NTSC TV with PAL to NTSC conversion..Waiting for region hack..LOL

and guess price? under $200, retail for $179, can be bought for $170 or less..LIGHT on ur pockets!

Hold ur breath..PIONEER DV-563a...Did I miss any thing? Mola ram! :baaa:

Mola Ram: A guy I spoke to at my local (Indian) video store said that his Playstation had been able to play all of his trouble DVDs that his other 2 DVD players wouldn't. I'm afraid I don't know anything about such devices, but I assume he was referring to a Playstation 2. Still... I'm sure that the DVD player that can play some of the discs I have bought hasn't been built yet.

izzy: Any DVD player should be able to play Pal DVDs. It's the tv that needs to be adjustable. The picture has a different resolution and framerate. Not all tvs are have this extra feature. Check the manual. Best of luck.

King P I dont think, u r right on that, any player can play pal..

Izzy, chottu miyan, this player, comes out of the box ready to play pal, with pal to ntsc conversion, even in prog scan mode, so u can watch ur dvds on NTSC TV, hazoor!!

R0 works, but not R2 in my case!

PS2..was not doing/playing pal dvds, I did try, while XBOX, does play R0(asoka) Pal dvd,on nTSC TV, but interlaced as XBOX does not support PROG scan..

Well, these r a bit advanced GUFTAGOO, for little mind may be?

So, Enjoy..JAADOOO!! Miyan!

Maybe we are talking about two different things here... Regions have nothing to do with the video format on the disc. Region codes are just there to block people from for example watching a DVD of a movie that hasn't even premiered in the cinema in their country yet. If we are talking about a region block then yes, most players need to be patched. Even most players sold as region free start out as region blocked. The block is installed in the factory for legal reasons and then removed in the store for sales reasons. In many cases it is something you will have to do yourself. On some players you can't. Some players can be made region free by inputting a certain sequence of keys on the remote like a kind of code. But... as an example... A region 2 DVD can be PAL if it's say German, and NTSC if it's Japanese because the two countries have different tv standards. Same region code, different video standard.

EROs etc, Indian manufacturer's shit, is PAL/NTSC compatable, region free..so will play any where..

Now, UK authored films, like ASOKA metrodome( does say r2, but it is pal, R0), The Warrior, Monsoon Wedding, BILB are PAL R2..

UNless and unless ur dvd player in USA/CANADA supports that format, i.e pal and is region free, u cant play it..

PC is a different story, it is DVDROM, can do both pal/ntsc and most of time region free/adjustable..

So, for izzy..u have to buy a pal dvd player or multi system dvd player that also does pal to ntsc conversion internally( if ur tv is NTSC only) then u can watch ur ASOKA..METRODOME..it does say R2 but is R0..indeed!

if it is r0 than dosen't that mean it should play in r1 dvd players since 99.9% of indian dvds are r0
