No...a (H)ard (D)isk (D)rive Recorder.

and Awaaz I was going to buy a Panasonic DMR-E80 which is a DVD Recorder with a built in 40gb HDD but because of the high cost went with the Panasonic DMR-E50 instead without the HDD. Try checking out DVDrHelp.com which has more info on DVD Recorders with HDDs.

that's the one I'm looking at too dude, the pana e-50 retails now for as little as £300 in the UK and everyone says its great, but the future has gotta be with a hard disc.....the e-80 is too expensive at the moment your right..........some new toshiba and sharp machine are due out next month with progressive, 5.1 sound recording and bigger drives.....but with a price point of around 600-800 sterling........

How do you find the e-50 to use? glad you got it?
dont ya miss not have a drive? how compatible is it with cheap media?

I was thinking get an e-50 the use a pc based dvd-r to tidy up and author........still cheaper then an e-80

I use it quite often and find it very handy especially when recording onto DVD-Ram discs dramas I dont want to miss from satelite. I dont miss not having a hard drive, would have been nice but dont miss it since I can record onto DVD-Ram any show I really like and edit out the commercials on the recorder itself. Then even though I dont have a computer based dvd-ram reader I use my Panasonic RP82 which reads dvd-ram, hook it up to my E50 and record to DVD-R. Very simple. I have recorded many movies from the local video shop and library (free rentals). I am a Panasonic freak you can say and try to only buy Panasonic, heck even my cell phone is a Panasonic :p The media I use is Princo (cheap) and Maxell (average priced). Both play perfectly on my Panasonic RP82, RV31, Pioneer 333 and even on a older Pioneer DV-414 (sometimes may freeze but because its an old player, it dont matter).
