The worst that I have seen from Genuine Shemaroo is Paakeeza, and even that one is miles ahead of present day releases. All the Shemaroo titles that I have seen, have brilliant colors and excellent sharpness. Only thing is, most of them are interlaced (averaged fields); (some are pseudo-prog).

But!! Still, this SHEMROO HINDUSTANI should be miles ahead of what it is available otherwise!!I dont know if it is proper 5.1? as This film does badly need nothing short of a PROPER WELL DONE DYNAMIC...DD sound track!!

Wait until Ayngaran re-release Hindustani original Tamil version Indian with a brand new "Progressive" OAR anamorphic transfer in 5.1 sound. It will be coming out mid 2003.

If it had an option for Tamil and Hindi (like Asoka UK release), I would not hesitate to buy the dvd again. I really liked this movie and would appreciate the opportunity to actually watch it properly (I hate having to fast-forward for five minutes to watch one scene on this dvd I have right now).

According to Ayngaran there will not be a Hindi version on thier DVD as the director felt that the dubbing was quite poor.
So it will just be the original Tamil version.

Also the film was originally released in Tamil in DTS back in 1995 (Before Judwaa made DTS mainstrem in Hindi cinema) so the DVD will feature a Dolby 5.1 track made from the original 6 track master.

I'm going for the Tamil version. I can deal with the subtitles. I hate dubbed films.

What do you guys think of the film itself? This is one of two Shankar films I still haven't seen (the other being Kaadhalan/Humse Hai Muqabla). I saw the songs on a Rahman DVD from Ayngaran and I thought the picturizations were surprisingly bad for Shankar. And Kamal looked silly dancing around like that. But then again, I think he always looks silly :)

I must say I prefer the better Eros titles to Pakeezah,
not to mention K3G quality from Superdigital.
The DNR simply looks grotesque on my 2.4m wide screen.
Terribly distracting.

ok, answer to dragun's question, u have to see to believe, leave dances, aside, dubbed songs, aside, kamal, dancing with grand daughter..urmila..fine!!

but..it is one of the best performance by kamla hasan so far, other naming..sadma imho, as i am not familliar with his entire library!! rehman's music is very good, musically, not dubbed lyrically!

I think, it came with RAJA HINDUSTANI??? and I declared KAMAL, best actor for the year!!? and I think he got NATIONAL? for that?? Am I right??

Did he earn his PADMASHRI for same..I am not sure!!

But just for Excellent double role by KAMLA HASAN..worth keeping/collection!!

I can only speculate:

Current Solo Super Digital titles should be Progressive and good.

New SD authored titles for Customer (YRF, VS, etc) depend on the source the Customer (YRF, VS etc) provides.

Old SD authored titles for Customer (YRF, VS, etc) depended on the source the Customer (YRF, VS etc) provided, as well as, on the limitation of Single Layer media used in the beginning.

Old Solo SD titles: I can’t speculate on this as I haven’t seen any.

Rana

P.S.
Let’s hope for the best and assume more DVDs like Abhinetri will keep on rolling.

What you mean dubbing was quite poor - wasn't this film dual language with original stars dubbing in both Tamil and Hindi, in DTS?

Ayngaran is mainly a Tamil film/DVD outfit - they don't want to pay for the Hindi sound tracks, or have no interest in Hindi DVD market :O
