For me, this is a genuine WTF moment:

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus Devdas starring Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit managed a rare feat when noted film critic Richard Corliss included the film in TIME magazine's list of 10 best films of the millennium. Devdas, which features at No. 8 in this elite list, shares the platform with films like Moulin Rouge, Avatar, Wall E, The Lord Of The Rings and The Hurt Locker.

In his praise for Devdas, Corliss says, "The piece is played with such commitment that the tritest plot twists seem worth believing - and dancing to, in nine nifty production numbers. But the fervid emotion is what makes the thing sing. Beyond that, Devdas is a visual ravishment, with sumptuous sets, fabulous frocks and beautiful people to fill them; it has a grandeur the old Hollywood moguls would have loved."

Meanwhile, to mark the 10th anniversary of Devdas, Bhansali also has plans to release the film in 3D.

This doesn't mean much to me, and shouldn't to anyone else either. The who's-who & what's-what top 10 film list is coming this August from Sight & Sound Magazine.

I'm not by any means taking this as a comprehensive list, but if there is ANY international recognition of Indian cinema, it shouldn't be through dross like Devdas (not that version anyway).

Well, if I understand correctly, this film critic also had Moulin Rouge on their list, which pretty much speaks for what their taste dictates.
