 Bollywood/Hollywood
 (Deepa Mehta)

If you combine India's penchant for a goofy musical-romance spectacular with America's sassy take on the love story, the result is Deepa Mehta's cross-cultural flick. Bollywood/Hollywood pits tradition against self-determination. Wealthy, handsome first-born son Rahul pays a mysterious, beautiful woman to be his fiancee just long enough for his knocked-up sister to tie the knot. But then he finds himself falling for his rent-a-chick anyway. A nagging grandma, an all-suffering mom, an obedient manservant with a transvestite secret: Hindi audiences will relish the stereotypes while Americans will see one of its most popular film genres transformed. (Opens June 20, Magnolia)
