Hey Gang,

Wondering for your input. Currently I have the Sony HTIB 5.1 HT-DDW990 consisting of the STR-K990 Receiver. I am looking to upgrade to a better receiver with the speakers that came with the HTIB. I am looking at the Onkyo 7.2 Channel AV Receiver (TX-SR608) (Click Here). What are you thoughts? My current Sony HTIB Receiver doesn't support HDMI Audio/Video and .2 for multiple sub woofers (which I have a Sony and Quest).

I have a PS3 for my blu-ray movies and games. Currently it is connected via HDMI direct to the TV from where an optical cable is connected to the receiver for sound.

Thoughts?

I knew you would be the first to reply Zoran Bhai :)

Preferably under $700 .. even that is a bit high, I am in no rush as I was thinking it over recently and thought I would ask all.

i have the sony Sony STR-DN1000 7.2 Channel, i must say i am quite impressed with its performance, i however love the Denon and Onkyo ranges as well Zoran Bhai. A friend has the Denon and its output is excellent (but prices!!), lol.
I have no issues with blu ray sound, but i find the DVD sound to be a bit boring now (thanks to the HD audio codecs).
The sony amp above is reasonable priced.

I personaly think you should be able to score a Denon Piece under $700, with 7.1, .2! might be a stretch..lol.

More so, try Pioneer also, there non elite receiver, latest should be no slouch.

Unfortunately, I am not Sony audio fan! While I love my Ps3! :D

I have not used Sony long timez( only receiver I could not make it work)!

Yamaha V series are pretty darn good too.

Nevertheless it depends upon your budget and speakers you have! But you can always upgrade your speakers at later time once you have good amp!

I saw pioneers here:( $500-$1000)

http://www.jr.com/category/audio/receivers/n/20/

Some times, you might score an open box at bestbuy for a very good deal!

Remember when we replaced your TV from Samsung to Sony! I hope that was the right decision! :D

But IMO:

Denon/Marantz
Onkyo/Yamaha
Pioneer
Sony.

I would strongly recommend:

But its commercial version might be cheaper!

Hey All,

Thinking about this one:

Sony 7.1 Channel Home Theatre Receiver (STRDH710) - Click Here
Image

Futureshop in Canada has this for $499.99 right now.

I am looking to the experts (Zoran / Sanjay / Ali / Faddy anyone else I have forgotten :) ) to see what they think? :D

Dude if sonystyle sells it for $299 why would u pay $499?

More so if your speakers are not demanding you will do fine.
Best of luck.

Thats U.S. pricing ;)
The speakers for now that I will be using will transferred from my old Sony Receiver to this one, not too demanding at all.

Thanks .. if I get it will let you know.

It is a viable option for sure if the cooling is not a problem. It depends on your setup and what you do. If you play games PS3 is still a better fit. As for my game, I play PS3 or watch Blu-Ray collection in the room if I want. In the main room I have a standalone Sony Blu-ray. I must admit to burn a CD to make updates on the free agent is a little pain. How the new technology. What could be a good opportunity today will be old news this summer.
