Hello all -

Today I saw a 4-in-1 DVD at my local grocers. He said he got it from Canada. It was a Kareena Kapoor Special DVD, with 4 movies - 'Asoka', 'Refugee', 'Khushi' and 'Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai'. I thought it was a great price too at $16! All were from the original DVDs.

This begs the question - how many movies will eventually be fit onto one disc. I remember sometime back someone said that even 4 movies on one disc would be impossible but in the scenes from Asoka that I saw today on the 4 in 1, there is amazing clarity and surprise surprise, it looks like they ripped it from the R2!! So the pirates have gone ahead and done it. Has anyone else seen a 4 in 1. The 3 in 1s are getting stale, so many of them are on Ebay right now.

ASOKA couldn't have been ripped from R2 DVD as that was PAL.

Obviously, pirates cosider blank discs to be woth optimizing. Soon they may double the no of movies from 5 to 10 in the same space. Top half of the screen shows one 2.66:1 movie and the bottom half shows a second 2.66:1 movie. :fight:

That is really funny. But what is not funny is the fact that this statement is not far from the truth and it is made worse by the fact that the Indian consumer is such a fool that he/she would actually happily accept such DVDs, as long as they are cheap.

LOL, rana. How would the audio be done, though? Mono audio from one film in the left, mono audio from the other in the right, adjust the balance depending on the film? At this stage the pirates won't bother with 2 audio tracks.

Wait till the hi-storage blue-ray discs make an appearance and couple that with better compression technology, 100-in-1 DVDs anyone?

I totally agree. If companies like Eros/VS/YRF and the rest continue to create sh*t dvds, they cannot expect consumers to fork out good money for them. Either they wise up and create better dvds or they can sell their crap dvds for what they are actually worth i.e less than £5. Those muppets will do neither until they are ruined by piracy.
The pirate dvds are of similar or better quality than the originals and at a fraction of the price. If the quality is better, the bitrate will be higher and this will use more disc space, making it more difficult for the pirates to get 2 movies of the same quality on one disc. 3 movies on one disc would be totally out of the question.

Instead of paying $10 for 3 movies on one disc, wouldn't it make sense to pay $10 plus $1 for 2 extra blank discs and you get 3 movies that are exact replicas of the originals where copied from. Both are equally illegal, though.
