While on Santoshi, the successful director has decided to shut his production company. Reason? “Well, I used to keep hearing, isne paisa banaya, usne paisa banaya, sirf producer ne paisa nahin banaya. I got so fed up one day that I said to myself, 'Enough is enough.' I decided it's high time I concentrated on direction, which is my forte, not film production,” he states.

As an after-thought, he adds, “It works out better that way. At least, you've someone sitting on your head and telling you that you need to complete the film in a particular timeframe, whereas in my case, when I was producing the films myself, I often shot and re-shot so many times, thereby escalating the budget.”

So what's in the offing in the future, after he completes KHAKEE? “Two more projects,” he replies promptly, “The first will star Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and one more hero, who's currently under finalisation. Amit-ji is more like family after the interaction we had on the sets of KHAKEE. This project will roll later this year for sure.”

The second project that Santoshi is planning will star his mentor Sunny Deol in the lead. Yes, you've read it right. After BARSAAT, there were differences of opinion between Sunny and Santoshi, which were ironed out when the director started LAJJA. But, suddenly, date problems arose and Santoshi replaced Sunny with Ajay Devgan in the flick and even lodged a complaint against Sunny in a producer's association demanding the signing amount back. It did snowball into a major issue then. “But all that is a thing of the past,” Santoshi says, “Sunny and I decided to bury the hatchet and come together. Jo galat-fehmi thhee, sab sort out kardi. Our association dates back to so many years. We have three solid hits behind us and we hope to recreate the same magic again.” Await this combo!
