Best Foreign Film goes to No Man's Land (Bosnia & Herzegovina) - even Amélie didn’t win.

Wasn't expecting Monsoon Wedding to win. Still looking forward to Lagaan at the oscars.

If only India had chosen the more superior film 'Monsoon Wedding' as the official entry for the Academy Awards. I am sure it would have atleast gotten nominated, atleast it stood a much better chance than Lagaan.

Actually, only 2 Indian films thus far did get a nomination from the Oscars. Mother India and Mira Nair's Salaam Bombay. However, they never won an Oscar, but its not to say that Indian Films never got a oscar nomination. But there is an issue i have been thinking about for a while now, since the Oscars loved the works of Satyajit Ray and many Hollywood critics consider him to be a true world cinematic ingenious individual. How come not one of Satyajit Ray films ever got nomination for Best Foriegn Film at the oscars?

Monsoon Wedding isn't even a Bollywood movie, really. It's not what bollywood is about, and I don't feel it fairly represents what Indian cinema is all about. Lagaan does that in a much better way.

Exactly!! Lagaan is a Bollywood film and MW is not. BTW I got to watch MW last night, it was alright, probably deserved an award for best film and for great performances but still it does not deserve to be called a Bollywood film. Lagaan is much more important for India, its crossing over to mainstream films, making critics sit up to watch a three hour fourty five minute with songs and dances. If it was any other year with Jeans or Indian in the entry, I would have been pissed off why MW got kill but this and last year belongs Lagaan. Give Lagaan a chance, afterall MW did win the golden bear and got nominated for the golden globes.

BTW, did you guys know that Kamal Hassans Hey! Ram was sent as India's official entry to the Oscars back in 2000, slightly beating Mission Kashmir for the competition. And I agree with congress, Lagaan is a much better choice than MW to represent India at the Oscars. And in my humble opinion, Lagaan also remains a better film than Monsoon Wedding.
