Someone mentioned that they will use 70mm prints for The Hero's premiere on large screen (I-max type).

It is quite common to blow up reg 35 mm prints to 70mm for Grand premieres of Big Hollywood movies. I wonder if they are doing the same for The Hero??

Rana

P.S.
I know of V. Shantaram's Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje blown up to 70 mm for its revival in the 80s.

About 12 to 14 years ago 70mm prints were quite frequent, the last I think was Trimurti by Subhash Ghai...70mm in India was never actually exploited fully to its potential,in fact at one time even T series was making movies in 70mm

T-Series has never produced any film in 70MM, infact they have gone to the other extreme of shooting films on 16mm and on video and then blowing them upto 35mm. As for Trimurti, it was not shot in 70MM and was only blown upto 70MM from 35MM. The last Hindi film to actually be shot in 70MM was Karma.

The Hero, most likely is filmed on 35mm.

Being a Big Budget, Big Publicity, Big Screen Film, is it being blown up on 70mm Film for premierre and publicity purposes?? Blowing up a few prints on 70 mm is only a fraction of the total publicity cost and gives much more exposure and gives extra satisfaction to the most important, early audiences.

Hardev, are you referring to SHALIMAR??
I don't know if it was shot in Alaska.

I think there were 70mm movies in India long before this.

BTW Congress, you know a lot about Film Prints. Are there lots of films or only a few, where they ever released some 70mm prints as well, even if the movie was not shot in 70 mm.

Which films??

Do they make any attempt to preserve these 70mm prints or as expected, print life is limited and they make new print from one or a few preserved prints or negatives, when needed??

Rana

BTW, I think you had the right movie as the first Indian 70mm Film.

Nope...Shalimar was NOT shot in Alaska...it was shot in India using cheap sets-the climax is quite low-tech considering how it was tom-tommed as the Bollywood movie with Hollywood stars!!

Didn't Boney Kapoor claim PUKAR was the first movie to be shot in Alaska?

The only movies that come to mind that Dharmendra starred in and were shot overseas are CHARAS and AANKHEN (both directed by Ramanand Sagar) and I dont think there was Alaska in either of them.....

Just for info:

Dharmendra and Hama Malini had the highest number of films shot in 70mm by mid 80s.

Sholay, Alibaba Aur Chalis Chor, The burning Train, Razia Sultan and few others...
