Interesting article.

Excerpts:

In the last 36 years, several other dream merchants have strayed into maple land and come away mooning over its many-splendoured landscape. “Canada is one country that has anything and everything from the snows of Calagary to the greens of Vancouver. You will find a mini London in Ottawa and a little Italy in Quebec City. And then, there’s one of the seven wonders of the world in the Niagra Falls that’s as alluring to any foreigner as is our Taj Mahal,” asserts producer Keshu Ramsay who has shot six of his films in Canada including Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi (’96), Mr & Mrs Khiladi (’97), International Khiladi (’99) and Khiladi 420 (2000).

Today, Canada is the cheapest country to shoot abroad. It’s not more expensive than Mumbai,” Ramsay raves.

After the success of Taal in the overseas market, directors today are making their films as much for the man in Vancouver and Toronto as for one settled in Varanasi or Thane. That explains why more and more of them are flying off across the seven seas. It isn’t just to show Indians who cannot afford more than a Rs 10 ticket to the movies, what the world looks like and how the better half lives. But also, to give NRIs a picture of the India they left behind and the community they live in now.
