Question: Why would anyone want spend so much money on a contrived script with bad actors, bad music (Nadeem-Shravan) and bad direction (Lawrence D'Souza)?

And so it begins. Indian Babu is a miserable mix of Aditya Chopra's Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Charles Perrault's Cinderella.

While the whole nation gears up for India's match against Kenya at the World Cup in South Africa, I trudge to the nearest cinema hall to endure this Friday's fare, Indian Babu.

Watching a movie alone isn't as bad as watching a bad movie alone. The ticket window appears deserted for a Friday. "Above 18?" the seller inquires. I nod in the affirmative. He hands over the tickets along with a freebie. It's a set of Indian Babu playing cards, part of the film's promotional campaign.

The hall is empty and the usher says I can sit wherever I please.

That's because the filmmakers know that in India, it is basically a gamble to make a film - it's got little to do with quality - you just may have a bad hit movie on your hands depending on what the audience feels like at that time, a la KNPH. I mean this film's story, direction, screenplay and music seems about as contrived as KNPH.

The main star in this movie, was supposedly discovered by some film maker. The guy was working in a chip shop in birmingham, when some film maker thought this guy should be in a movie, hahahahahhahahahahahhahahhahahaha.

I remember seeing a programme about this - the producer is a flop Bollywood star, but he's also a businessman - apparently a millionaire. He wants his son (the hero) to realise his dreams - so he went ahead and got the worst of Bollywood (Lawrence D'Souza, Nadeem Shravan) to make Indian Babu.

Sunny accused of not returning signing amount!

30th Oct 2002 11.41 IST
By ApunKaChoice Bureau

NRI producer Surjit Pandher has accused Sunny Deol of not returning the singing amount of £1,00,000 after the Bollywood actor backed out of acting in his next film.

Surjit Pandher is making the film titled ‘Indian Babu’ starring Jaz Pandher and Gurlin Chopra with Lawrence D'souza as the director.

Reports have it that Surjit had paid Sunny a whopping sum of £1,00,000 as signing amount for acting in the movie. Besides the money, Surjit had also agreed to most of Sunny’s terms and conditions including an actress of his choice.

Sunny even allotted the requisite dates to the producer.

But Surjit is now accusing Sunny of boycotting the project and not returning the signing amount too.

Reports quote Surjit as saying: “I must have wasted around Rs 50 lakh flying up and down from London to India just to try and meet Sunny, but he kept avoiding a meeting with me. He is not even taking my calls.”

Surjit Pandher is real stupid bloke if he is the chap I think was shown in a BBC2 show about 2 aspiring bollywood actors.

His son could not even speak proper hindi and frankly just had no magic sparkle about him which would suggest he had a future in bollywood. Surjit was shown training with his son as if they were remaking a Rocky movie.

When his son was rejected for a few roles because his acting was realy cheesy his old man said "not too worry .... I will make a film" ha ha now it looks as if his old man has not only financed a flop film but that Mr Deol has done him for £100K. If only he had invested his money better.

It just goes to show that fools from the UK can even get into bollywood, if their dad wants them to. They would sell us any crap in the name of entertainment.
Never mind this i am still surprised jetendars sons still getting roles...

Pandher's only consolation now is that he has a sparkling new WEG DVD of his film to put on his shelf.

Why dont we Zulmis write to Surjit and ask him to fund a Bollywood Legends DVD label. We could buy rights to some classics and get them digitaly restored etc and top notch DVDs released.

If he could give a £100k advance to Mr Deol maybe he still has some cash spare to throw around.

We could sell him the idea by offering to put a Tilda Basmati advert featuring his son on each of the DVDs.

Nope. The chip shop Guy is Ram Asra who made 'Hum hain pyar mein'...a film that sank without a trace. I can rememebr him on TV trying to promote the film saying something like "This is very unique, it's something that hasn't been done before, the audience would be impressed, go and see my movie!".
The guy in Indian Babu is Jaz Pandher, who used to be in the Himalaya Carpets advert! His father was also in a Bollywood film years ago...that flopped!
