Don't expect Devdas to win at the BAFTA's nor at the Oscars after the bashing it took in the press. Oh well it's an achievement it got nominated.

Safe bets are "City of God" :nopity: :hmm: :eek: :ffs:

what bashing? Do you have any articles?

I don't remember what newspaper it was from, but one of the first reviews I read of Devdas was from a British reviewer that trashed it. The film was either loved or hated by critics, so for every negative review, you can probably find a positive review.

By the way, 'Devdas' chances at an Oscar nom just got dimmer because the final nominations were handed in last evening, even though the film is only now starting to be screened in the US. This means that a large number of Academy members STILL havent heard of 'Devdas', so we should not expect a nomination.

I think all but one selection will be eatan alive by Y Tu Mama Tambien. I recently saw this film, and its an excellent, thought-provoking and above all seductive entertainer. Devdas has however created history with its nomination, its the first "Bollywood" film ever to get a nomination at BAFTA.

The 'bashing' you are talking about - all big budget films get it. It's a tradition. Remember Titanic? If Devdas can be placed no. 1 on Time magazine and win the Best Asian film at MTV, you can't really be sure who likes it and who doesn't...In any case, a film has got to be pretty good to enter the BAFTA's in the first place.
