Dum - http://www.indiafm.com/reviews/03/dum/index.shtml

On the whole, DUM has an excellent first half, but a weak second. Although the film has several clapworthy sequences, it falls prey to mediocrity in the second half. Relying too heavily on the tried and tested stuff, DUM should face rough weather at the box-office.

Rating:- * ½.

Kuch To Hai -

"On the whole, KUCCH TO HAI belies the expectations that the viewer has from the film. Weak in content and a weaker climax will curtail its prospects to a great extent"

Rating:- *

Dum is another ARJUN...Hmm!

Almost 18 years ago, a company named Cineyug produced Arjun with Sunny Deol in the lead.

Arjun was the story of an unemployed urban youth who is repeatedly confronted with a hostile and corrupt environment. Just when he thinks he has finally found his ray of hope, Arjun's idealism is ruthlessly shattered by the very man he worships.

Arjun unleashed a wave of anti-establishment films that glorified an individual's fight against a morally depraved system, usually represented by one unimaginably black antagonist.

Now, Cineyug has made Dum, which is basically another variation of the Arjun formula. Only, it is much less effective.

Just complimenting u KHILADI!

Btw, a good dvd of Arjun would be better/eros dvd was a good as kishi's vhs! damn it!

Just too WACKY review of KTH:

Scary Movie!

Sukanya Verma | January 25, 2003 00:28 IST

Sonal: I know what you did last summer!

Sameer: You do?

Sonal: No silly. I mean Kucch Toh Hai is inspired by I Know What You Did Last Summer coupled with generous doses of Scream, Urban Legend and even Gupt.

Sameer: What's new? Mujhse Dosti Karoge and Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi too were a mish mash of several films.

By the way, isn't I Know What You Did Last Summer the one starring Jennifer Love Hewitt and Sarah Michelle Gellar. They are so wow.

Sonal: Excuse me, Ryan Phillipe and Freddie Prinze Jr too had an important role to play.

Sameer: Yeah, yeah, whatever. So give me more gup on this movie.

Just saw Dum and found the film to be a whole better then the Tamil version in terms of production values and fight sequences. I also like the fact that after seeing this film Vivek Oberoi is fast becoming one of the better actors in Indian cinema. His performance here is quite good and on par with Vikram’s performance in the original. I won’t mention the heroine Diya as she was simply plain and dull and sort of glad her role was more sidelined. Why her??

I personally felt A. Vidyarthi was a lot better as the misguided police inspector in Dhil (Courage) then corupt officer that Atul Kulkarni plays in Dum. The character in the Hindi version seems to be a caricature and amalgamation of Hindi villains seen in past films.

But after the disappointing scene by scene remake of Alay Puthtey its good that a filmmaker like E. Niwas saw the original of Dhil (Courage) and found a better way of presenting it. The only let down was the intrusion of songs every 20-30mins. It really slowed the film down, had the songs been situational or had a better score then it might have helped the film.

Interestingly I read from Kalaam trade mag that Vivek Oberoi saw the DVD of Dhil before the project began. I even remember Ayngaran telling me they sent many DVDs of Alay Pauthey to the producers of Saathiya that wanted some actors to view the film (Vivek Oberoi? Rani Mukherjee?) since it had English Subtitles. Looks like the DVD format is helping actors and directors to produce a remake.

I guess it won't be long when Big B Jr. will ask for a DVD copy of RUN from Aynagran so that he can watch the film and be prepared for the remake :bash:
