Harivansh Rai Bachchan passes away

MUMBAI: Renowed poet and father of Amitabh Bachchan, Harivanshrai Bachchan, passed away on Saturday evening after suffering from respiratory problems.

Since Thursday, the condition of the Sahitya Akademi winner continued to be critical.

Earlier, Bachchan had been kept under observation at the Intensive Care Unit set up at "Pratiksha", residence of his son and megastar Amitabh Bachchan in suburban Juhu.

The condition of the 96-year-old poet had deteriorated on Wednesday night following some breathing problem, according to family sources.

Leading film personalities, friends and admirers visited the star's residence to enquire about senior Bachchan's health condition.

It's sad, but he did live on earth for 96 years, and has seen the times change and his son become a legend of Hindi cinema, and watch his grandson come into cinema (I don't want to say anything mean), so his time has come. Harivansh did a lot, and served his time on earth with great intentions!
