This DVD cover was the original one decided upon but changed later to the one Mel Gibson and family. I read this on DVDfile.com forums (cant that find post now).

The one with Mel & family is the official cover art. In my opinion it sucks...disney is trying to sell the dvd by putting Mel Gibson's face on it. If you have the dvd then check out the Special Features..(they are pretty good). M. Night talks about how Disney wanted to put Mel Gibson's picture on marketing campaigns and posters for Signs to sell the movie but Night wanted something that would generate curiousity in people...hence the one sheet: Image.

i still haven't opened the dvd yet cuz i'm still hopin 4 a double-disc [look how many extra features it has!!! they deserve a second dvd] like they did w/ The Sixth Sense, but that'll probably be a good while from now...yeah, the cover really does suck, the original cover idea was much better. u're right, they're just tryin 2 sell Mel Gibson's name and face...

Once they milk everyones money with the single disc they will announce the double disc, probably a year from now.

I did buy the DVD for Signs. I was expecting a 2-DVD set but I agree about the cover. Even Shymalan was saying that on the posters and promotion he didn't want Gibson's face on it because the movie wasn't about Gibson. He was the main character but the story is more about faith and thats why even on the original posters he had pictures of the Crop Circles.

I doubt a double DVD would come out though. Anybody know if "Sixth Sense" and "Unbreakable" had double DVD packs?

Sixth Sense originally was released as a single disc special edition, then later it was released as a 2-disc Vista Series SE, adding a DTS track, and a documentary. Unbreakable was released as a 2-disc Vista Series package, though it really didn't have many interesting extras.

What's up with Shyamalan not doing commentry tracks on his dvds. I'd rather see a commentry track than one of his old home movies.

He does do commentary on the Signs DVD. In the extras area of the DVD he gave the making of the movie and in there he was speaking throughout about the movie.

Actually all the extras have him speaking about it, whether it be music (where he actually refers to indian movies), the making, the scenarios and other stars too talking.

So Shyamalan is definetely on the DVD talking about the movie, I have it.

Commentary means that there is an alternate audio track on the film itself where the participants talk about the film as you are watching it.

A commentary track would have been a bonus...but in my opinion, Night does a pretty good job explaining just about every aspect of making 'Signs'. I rarely watch dvds with commentary tracks turned on because most of them are really lame. I would prefer screen-specific commentaries any day or good extras...like the ones in Signs dvd.
