Samrat International 1.85:1 non-anamorphic widescreen DD 2.0 Dolby Surround English subtitles no extras Single sided dual layer
Starring: Raghubir Yadav, Shraddha Nigam, Milind Gunaji Directed by Rajesh Sheth
Video ----- 1.85:1 appears to be the original aspect ratio since the compositions look fine, but I noticed what looked like horizontal anamorphic flares. The censor card at the beginning didn't say CinemaScope, so it probably is meant to be 1.85:1. The image is fairly sharp when it is still, but movement shows DVNR to be very high. Some floaty textures can also be scene. Color and contrast are fine. Some dark scenes look okay while others are slightly dark, but you can see everything. This is much better than what Eros produces. There are many shots in Bawandar where you can't see anything at all. The image sometimes appears to be a little soft, but it is not too distracting.
Audio ----- The 2.0 track is indicated as Dolby Surround on my DVD player, and the packaging does say "4 channel." This is no 5.1 or 4.0 faux surround mix, though I didn't notice any stereo effect. I don't have a surround sound system so I don't know if there was any surround activity. Dialogue and music are acceptably clear without any major noise. English subtitles are included, and they are well done, except for some subtitles being enclosed in quotation marks for no reason.
Don't read the synopsis on the back cover though. It gives away the whole movie. The disc comes in a cardboard case rather than an Amaray or Amaray clone.
