Anil Kapoor to remake "Anbe Sivam" ?
By: Amit
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The association of Anil Kapoor and Kamal Hassan goes back as long as the early 80´s. Yash Chopra was negotiating with various actors for his forthcoming movie "Mashaal" and intended to cast Dilip Kumar and Kamal Hassan for the venture. For some reasons, Kamal Hassan couldnt be a part of the venture and Anil Kapoor was roped in to do Kamal´s role. Gulshan Grover finally did the role which was meant to be done by Anil Kapoor and the rest as they say is history.

Since then, Anil Kapoor has remade many of Kamal Hassan´s classics in Hindi. Two of them being "Eeshwar" and "Virasat", probably two of the superlative movies in recent times.

Kamal Hassan-Madhavan starrer "Anbe Sivam" is yet to release and as per the buzz, Anil Kapoor is as usual fascinated by Kamal´s work and is negotiating with him to buy the remake rights for "Anbe Sivam".

Whether Kamal agrees to this, remains to be seen. Lets hope the magic of "Virasat" and "Eeshwar" is re-created once again!

Anbe Sivam is supposedly a remake of the John Hughes film Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, at least in part. What were the original films for Virasat and Eeshwar?

Are we going to see a bunch of South Indian remakes in Hindi this year? Khushi is coming soon, and maybe the remake of Run will be out later. We saw Shakti in 2002, and the year ended with Saathiya. Kaante was a remake of Reservoir Dogs, but I'm still mentioning it because it is a remake. With a remake of a classic Hindi film, Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam rumored, I hereby declare Hindi cinema to be dead! Time of death, 5:39 pm, central standard time. Someone take it to the Ganges to perform the last rites!

Forgot to add that a Karan Johar remake of "Anand" is another rumored film. And we can always count on Mahesh Bhatt to provide some remake of an American film.
