Bend it Like Beckham, Monsoon Wedding, etc. all fall under the genre of showing us two cultures mixing and the, often hilarious, events that place. I think the right term for the genre these films fall under is "hinglish" or something like that.
By far the worst "hinglish" movie to come about has to be Bollywood Hollywood, I sat through 25 minutes, and turned it off. SO ridiculous. What was Deepa Mehta thinking, this, THIS is comedy? It was okay for the first 5 minutes or so and you get the idea that Deepa Mehta wants to use sarcasm and wit and even have words explaining definitions and songs flash across the scene, but then it really really gets annoying. This film is a perfect example of the bad flims that have resulted as a result of films like Pulp Fiction. This film doesn't take itself seriously enough. Comedy is all fine and dandy but it seems forced here coming out of every pore the movie has. You don't feel like your watching regular folks but people who know they are on camera trying to be funny about....being on camera. The conversations are dull and uninteresting and Lisa Ray comes off as a bimbette. Rahul Khanna is way too laid back and the movie for all intent and purpose falls apart after 10 minutes.
A must avoid film. I wasted 3 bucks on renting the DVD. Don't make the same mistake. I actually was thinking of watching this movie on theater....thank god I didn't.
