i am guessing he will be doing Arvind Swamy's role from the original. In the original Arvind Swamy comes towards the end, the role is nothing great & goes for about the last 10 minutes of the movie. I dont see SRK making any impact if he is doing the same role. but because Yash Chopra is backing this project expect SRK's role to be extended! :ffs:

keep in mind that since this is YASHRAJ hindi movie, the film will be atleast 150 mins, possibly 3 hours long....

you can imagine that SRK's role will be expanded - possibly to the point where it could be bigger than his role in Shakti.

Rumour has it that SRK was actually supposed to appear in the Tamil version and it at the request of both Chopra and Ratnam that he is used in the Hindi version. Ratnam rates him one of the best Indian actors and always expresses that he wants to use him in one of his forthcoming productions. SRK's Tamil is not that bad when he spoke in the Tamil version of Hey Ram so he can become a top choice for Ratnam's next movie.

I heard that he learnt Tamil for Hey Ram, but his voice was then dubbed....maybe I heard wrong.

In the tamil version, Arvind Swamy and Khushboo play a couple. Khushboo has just run down the heroine with her car (shes a poor driver) and is at the hospital feeling guilty. I thought the entire storyline was very contrived just to give us a 'special appearance' of a few 'superstars' (if Khushboo still thinks shes a major draw, she needs some help).

So I am sure that SRK-Tabu play these roles as there are NO OTHER ROLES IN THE MOVIE that they could play. The entire film is ONLY about the young couple (Rani and Vivek in this case).

I think its a really cheap trick if they throw SRK into the mix and extend his role. I personally cannot stand SRK and think his 'range' leaves a lot to be desired. However there are too many psycho Shah Rukh fans around so I've learned to keep my mouth shut.

Ratnam's been a big fan of Shah Rukh Khan since he first saw Aditya Chopra's DDLJ, he applauded Santosh Sivan's Asoka, he also considers DDLJ as one of the finest romantic film ever made. His original casting choice for Dil Se were SRK & Kajol. But Kajol backed out because of date problems. Ratnam is also a big fan of Aamir Khan and in an interview with Times Of India, he said Aamir Khan was brilliant in Dil Chahta Hai and he loved the movie.

I second everything you've just said.

As for the Arvind Swamy-Khushboo storyline, wasn't it supposed to make Madhavan realise how much he really loves Shalini? I may be wrong, I saw the movie ages ago.

SRK's role is very small. he comes near the end with tabu also (S.p). I am told they both enter together near the end of the movie for around 15mins. not much off a role, as they hardly do anything.

I was rather underwhelmed by SRK's performance, as I usually am. When I saw it, some of the girls went, "whooo!" which totally broke the mood.

Kabir, I kind of agree that putting famous actors like Arvind Swamy and Khushboo was a bit of stunt casting. I can't remember if I found it too distracting when I saw them, but it would have worked a little better if the audience wasn't taken out of the moment because two recognizable actors suddenly appeared.

In my opinion, the role played by Shah Rukh Khan in Saathiya was pointless. Only to the point did it make sense (if any) was during the last seconds of his appearence when he was hugging Tabu and how its suppose to show Vivek Oberoi's character some sort of meaning in a husband-wife relationship. I thought it was quite weak the way the director executed that part, but nontheless if his role surved any purpose, it was at that minor moment.
