1. Kannathil Muthamittal - I think its Mani Ratnam's best film to date. A visual beauti, charming and heartfelt performances by both Simran & P.S. Keerthana. And fighting sequences that look too bona fide. Mani Ratnam is simply at his best here with a sensitive story with the backgrounds of a war.

2. Company - Ram Gopal Verma's direction here is extraordinary, he gave Ajay Devgan one of his best performances in this film and succeeds in making another underworld gang saga after Satya, all while escaping from any cliches to the former directed film.

3. Devdas - A sheer visual masterwork. I could watch this film over and over simply for its colourful visual decadence. Not to mention the songs and its depiction onscreen are terrific. And in my opinion, Shah Rukh Khan gives his career best performance in the second half of this film, a few scenes while he was near his melancholic death, his facial expression resembled alot with Raj Kapoor's look and performance from Aah.

4. Aankhen - A very unique plot about 3 blind man trying to rob a bank, interesting! and successfuly the director pulls it off making it look convincing and entertaining all at once. And a very commendable performance by Paresh Rawal.

5. Saathiya - A very well written love story that actually has some brains added into its characters to actually contemplate about love and life after marriage. An intense climax and beautiful art direction and above all Gulzar's dialogues.

6. The Legend Of Bhagat Singh - An entertaining account on the life of Sardar Bhagat Singh, music by A.R. Rahman is a soft pleasure to the ears and another film that shows but does not completely disrespect the negativity of Mahatma Gandhi.

7. Kaante - Saw this film just today, I must say overall it was average at best, which means its Sanjay Gupta's best film to date. Though alot about this film was inconsistent, but I just gotta give respect to Sanjay Dutt's bad ass pimp boy act, it was awesome listening to him give dialogues about him screwing the cops wife or when he talks with the bouncer at the club about girls with big titties :D its one of his best performances after Vaastav, he looked like a real natural pimp.

8. Shakti The Power - A film packed with powerhouse performances by Nana Patekar, Karisma Kapoor (especially Karisma Kapoor), and Deepti Navel. Although I think this film is mediocre at best, but its strong dialogues and performances are good enough to make me give it another viewing.

9. Agni Varsha - The most I can say about this film is that, I liked its mythological story-telling and I was never once bored while watching this film. I'm a buff for historical films and this film kept me interested from start to finish.

10. The only other film worth mentioning is Sur to which only the music was fantastic but the films story was a cheap remake of a classic film "Abhimaan" by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. Everyother Indian film I saw this past year sucked!

It's a terrific list, I would only complain about the presence of AANKHEN. I don't think I'll be posting a top ten list this year, as everything was fairly mediocre in comparison to 2001's masterpieces (LAGAAN, ZUBEIDAA and MONSOON WEDDING). Until I see KUNNATHIL MUTAMITTAL (sp?), suffice it to say that DEVDAS and COMPANY take top honours.

Thanks Kamran, but compared to 2001, this year is no where near close to last year's excellence. And you should watch
Kannathil Muthamittal asap, its a great film.
