Original DVDs((((BUY ORIGINAL as THEY ARE PROG??)))

Digitally mastered picture
Digitally mastered audio
Subtitles in many languages
Many DVDs are now done in progressive scan to give consumers the highest quality picture one can get on a HDTV
Money goes to the company which bought the DVD rights legally

Sorry I don't agree with this, atleast not when it comes to DVDs from companies like Video Sound and Tips. What is the point of a progressive transfer or for that matter subtitles etc. if the disc is going to stop working after a few days and/or viewings. For the record every single Video Sound DVD from the last 2 yrs or so, except for maybe a couple have stopped working. Keeping in mind that I have bought every single new movie released, that is a lot of bad discs. The latest and last Video Sound DVD I bought 'Jeena Sirf Merre Liye', also stopped working today.

i think they are mainly talking about yashraj dvds since yashrajfilms is one of the companies behind indianwatchdog..(and there the only ones who still sometimes provide progressive dvds)

It feels good that after so many months of "Progressive" rant, Indian DVD makers have listened to us and are giving due importance to Progressive encoding.

I am sure other important things like, Anamorphic picture (for wide screen), Colors, Sharpness, Source etc. will not be overlooked.

I am all for all money going to the rightful right holders as long as the product is of acceptable quality. I will not want to pay any money (not even a single penny) for a pirate unless it is considerably better than the legal version.

At least, we succeeded in our (ganti, you, and me) mission to introduce the word "Progressive" (Farodja thread)??

At least, some one in the DVD making business has noticed the word, "Progressive". Let's hope, it's implemented in their DVDs soon.

It's about time. Hollywood has started Hi-Def distribution.

This weekend I saw HDVHS Terminator-2 at real 1920 x 1080 resolution display. I am not sure whether it was being displayed at 1080 i or 1080P, but the PQ was stunning. HDVHS distributed movies are a steal at $ 35 Cdn as compared to $ 26 Cdn for DVD.

P.S.
As always, Indians are a few years behind the west. But, Indians did beat them in Limited View DVDs.

I believe all the HD-VHS tapes are 1080i.

The vast majority of Indian DVDs are regressive, not progressive. We started with a bunch of great, although cropped, discs from Eros-DEI and later DEI on their own, and now Eros, VS, Spark, and the rest produce mediocre DVDs that could be confused with pirates.

That credit must go to Video Sound & Tips, in that order.

That has got to be the quote of the month, if not the year.

Welcome to HD! :D
What display did you use?
D-Theater tapes are 1080i.
T2's quality is average for HD. It gets better than that.
This kind of quality you can see daily many times on
US TV. In Europe we are a third world country in that
regard.

I believe all the HD-VHS tapes are 1080i.

Just like our present day 480i DVDs can be displayed in 480P if made from 24 fps film, the same way 1080i material can be converted to 1080P if made from 24 fps Film. (Ali had provided that link in another thread).

1080i Video shootings where 50 or 60 individual half images are recorded in a sec, stays 1080i.
