One of India's most beautiful stars, Aishwarya Rai confesses a Hollywood film is just another language

Fakir Chand in Bangalore

Bollywood heartthrob and superstar Aishwarya Rai has declared that she will make her debut in Hollywood movies some time in the middle of 2003.

Rai told rediff.com in Bangalore on Friday, December 6, that she has already been approached by a number of Hollywood directors and producers for acting in English films during her recent visit to the US. "An announcement about my entry into Hollywood films will be made soon by the agency that is tying up my films in Hollywood. They are working out the details."

"During my visit to the US in October, I have collected some scripts for selection. They wanted me to start shooting from January. But my shooting schedule in Bollywood does not permit me to leave India till another six months," Rai stated.

Rai hastened to clarify that acting in English films would be no different from those she has been doing in Hindi and other Indian language films. "The offer to work in a English movie is a great opportunity and a recognition for Indian talent by the Hollywood industry. For me it is just a matter of working in another language," Rai affirmed.
Rai, however, declined to give details on the name of the proposed Hollywood film she would be acting, nor about the director, producer, and the distrbution company. She also recalled the accolades she won at the Cannes Film Festival early this year for her performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas, along with costars Madhuri Dixit and Shah Rukh Khan.

"The international recognition and the rave reviews the film generated are a tribute to the Indian style of film acting," Rai claimed.

Rai also disclosed that her next film Dil Ka Rishta will be released in January. Directed by her brother Aditya Rai and scripted by her mother, the film revolves around middle class family problems, with many courtroom scenes.

"I am also acting in a Bengali film, besides a couple of Hindi films. Though I have offers from other south Indian directors to act in Kannada and Telugu films, my tight schedule does not permit me to sign up more than one or two films at a time," Rai affirmed. It may be recalled that she first acted in Mani Ratnam's Iruvar with Mohanlal, and then acted in Rajeev Menon's Kandukondain Kandukondain.

So here's what I want to know: is she going to choose a new stage name for Hollywood films? Or do we get to see her name slaughtered by various moviegoers, reviewers, and newspaper articles?

I bet you she'll just go by "Ash" or maybe "Aisha." Watch!

Just the other day a friend mentioned, if they ever went to India to do another James Bond film, they would choose Aish Rai to be the Bond girl. Maybe true, but she doesn't have the curves to be a Bond girl.

Aish has everything it takes to be a Bond girl. I would like to star opposite Aish in Emmanuelle the Indian years.

But yeah that would be brilliant seeing Aish in an erotic movie. Oh baby I can see it right now.

Hmmmm Bollywood babes in Hollywood, might work, they usually pass on indians/asians as mexicans, arabs and maybe even chinese.
My point is if any, that if aish sets a trend for bollywood babes in hollywood, and no doubt hollywood fans like their movies sexy, we might see more flesh from the bollywood babes in hollywood.
Sometimes bad indian films are sold by its songs and sometimes by its cast, but we fail to notice that exposure by actresses also sells a rubbish film sometimes, Ek choti si love story did good business despite the fact manisha's double did the nude scenes.
Nudity is a rarity in bollywood, thats why even a little bit of it sells very well.
In hollywood its a commons thing and most people dont care for it.

Aish as a Bond girl? I dunno. But if RGV was directing a Bond film, we know Urmila or Antra would be the Bond girl :)

As for Aish in an erotic film, if the eroticism/nudity was integral to the film and done artfully, who knows. But probably not at first. She probably wouldn't want to be typecast.

Aish would NEVER do nudity for whatever reason. I always thought if anyone would it would be Manisha, but then again as we now know even she wouldn't and used a body double instead. The only Indian actresses that I know did nude/semi-nude scenes are Mandakani, Zeenat Aman and Anu Aggarwal.

I don't think there would be much erotisism/nudity in bollywood films, no matter how 'artful' or essential to the script the scenes are and if there are it is most likely to be with a Body double. There will however be more of that in Art films and the 'Filmi-fundas' type.

Aish does NOT have curves, OK! Bond girls have curves. Aish look-a-like Diya has curves, but doesn't have the voice.
