It was bound to happen, folks. The biggest talent in the industry was surely just waiting to team up with the biggest moneybags of them all. Ramgopal Varma meets Bharat Shah. Yes, they're now teamed up for the industry's most expensive film to date. Bharat Shah's last film 'Devdas' cost Rs 50 crore and now his new venture is to cost much more. We get the producer/financier to spill the beans…
What is the budget of the film?
Bharat Shah: The budget of the film will be as much as 'Devdas', maybe more. With my films you can never tell.
Have you already decided on the cast?
Bharat: We have already decided on Akshay Kumar. The rest of the cast is as yet undecided as the project is still in the initial stages. Nothing has been finalized as yet.”
Where will the film be shot?
Bharat:The film will be shot partly in India and also abroad. We haven't decided on the locations, because the film hasn't begun yet. We will begin shooting in February
We hear you plan to rope in a Hollywood actress as well?
Bharat: That is correct. We are planning to cast a Hollywood actress, but I can't tell you more than that right now.
When do you plan to release the film?
Bharat: The film will be launched in February 2003 and should take about one year in the making. So we may (roughly) release it in the first half of 2004.
How many prints of the film do you plan to release?
Bharat: That depends on how the film turns out. I haven't decided on that as yet. Let's see.
So will this be a typical Ramgopal film?
Bharat: No, it's not going to be a typical Ramgopal film. This will be an out-n-out commercial 'masala' film as one would term it.
Are you working on any more films?
Bharat: No, I am not working on any other film, but I have two films which are complete which should release in a couple of months. One of them is 'Hum Panchi Ek Daal Ke' which stars Sunil Shetty, Aishwarya Rai and Ashutosh Rana.
