Here's the news from mid-day.com:

Hollywood eyes Aankhen

By: S Ramachandran

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now it is time for Hollywood to take the remaking rights of Hindi films. Indian filmmakers may never take official permission before getting “inspired” from foreign flicks, but now a Hollywood production house has bought over the rights of Aankhen, which released earlier this year.

Producer Gaurang Doshi confirms, “This is a first for Bollywood. The film in English is tentatively being called Three Blind Mice — They Rob.

It will cast some big names from Hollywood and will be directed by a big Hollywood director.”

However, Doshi refuses to reveal the name of the company that has bought the rights. “We shall announce that in a week’s time.

I have been paid a decent sum of money for the rights of the film and I have also got a five per cent share in the Hollywood venture,” exclaims Doshi.

Writer Aatish Kapadia’s script may have taken a beating from Indian critics, but Hollywood has sure liked the story, which was originally a Gujarati play by the name of Andhalo Pato.

Aankhen starred Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Arjun Rampal, Sushmita Sen and Paresh Rawal in lead roles. It is speculated that Robert De Niro will be essaying Bachchan’s role in the Hollywood version.

Post the release of Aankhen, the industry also saw a fallout between Gaurang Doshi and director Vipul Shah.

Now it remains to be seen whether Shah comes back to claim his pound of flesh.

DAMN!!!! One would never have expected this!!! Let's see if DeNiro (or whoever) could do justice to Big B's role...

This is great news! The Hollywood version may even surpass the original! Would be great if Tarantino or Bryan Singer directs.

Okay.... Guys before you jump the gun here, lets wait till this is confirmed... But watching a Hollywood version of this film would surely be interesting.... with more special effects and money spent on gadgetry etc. and not to forget De Niro....
But pray tell me why should it be De Niro and not Al Pacino ?

The hollywood version if made, will most certainly surpass the Hindi original. Quite simply because the Hindi version was not all that great inspite of a potentially great story idea.

Interesting, since Aankhen was a copy of the 1978 film Blind Rage. Check on http://www.imdb.com if you don't believe me.
