Title says it all. The DVD says it is 16x9 anamorphic. But when I was watching this dvd with proper screen size for widescreen anamorphic dvds on my tosh 50hx81 tv yesterday, i was getting black bars on top & bottom. So is it really an anamorphic dvd at all or am I missing something ?

you should get black bars on top and bottom cause the DVD's aspect ratio is 2.20:1 (roughly). The film is slightly cropped from its OAR of 2.35:1

and normal widescreen tv's ratio is 1.78:1, but with overscan it looks like 1.85:1

so in essence whenever an anamorphically encoded DVD's ratio is wider than 1.85:1, you SHOULD see black bars on top and bottom!
