Interesting... no one picked Mani Ratnam?
I also personally think Raj Kapoor ranks way above Yash Chopra.

You guys really crack me up. :D :D I mean come on.

Manmohan Desai?
Yes a good commercial entertaining film maker (not including anything after 1982) but ALL time Great director????

Prakash Mehra?
You are kidding, right?

Mukul Anand?
At his best, an average director, but otherwise mostly made crap films.

Aditya Chopra?
One good film and one at best average film qualifies him for this list? I think not.

Farhan Akhtar
One good film, Yes. Still has a long way to go to be on this list.

Rajkumar Santoshi
He who can #### up even good/great (Damini) scripts. I really think not.

Kundun Shah
One great film, two average films and two crap films. Sorry not on this list.

Mani Ratnam
Sorry only 1 film in Hindi. But definately worthy.

J.P. Dutta
One good film, one decent film, several crap films. All time great. Naaaa.

Subhash Ghai
I'd much rather not comment on this one. Still lost in the Yaadein of Pardes while listening to the Taal of A.R. Rehman.

Mansoor Khan
Sorry how can anyone take 'Kramer Vs Kramer' and make 'Akele Hum Akele Tum' and be even considered for this list.

Sai Paranjpaye
One good film, one bad film. That's it.

As Arsh aptly put it, we ought to be glads atleast no one included the likes of 'David Dhawan, Guddu Dhanoa'.

K. Asif only directed 3 films of which one he left incomplete.
1) Phool - Very average film.
2) Mughal e Azam - Great film.
3) Love & God - Left incomplete, when finally released turned out to be quite bad. Although since it was completed by someone else we cannot know how it might have finally shaped up had K. Asif finished the film himself.

Prakash Mehra - You are joking, right?

You should define what you mean by 'great'? Great can be a number of things to different people.

Manmohan Desai maybe not be the most critically acclaimed director but he made some of the most memorable movies that people still remember today - that makes him great to many people; Parvarish, Dharam Veer, Amar Akbar Anthony, Suhaag, Naseeb, Desh Premee, Coolie (wonderfully cut and pasted from IMDB  )

The kind of trash you get today no one can come close to that Manmohan Desai touch - he brought to films some decency and family entertainment - yes he entertained which was his greatest gift which many movie makers have forgotten to do these days. And without Manmohan Desai films where would AB be today? There's a generation of people who grew up calling AB just Anthony! LOL.

Coming onto Mukul Anand - he was more of than just an average director. His vision of filmmaking esp with the three AB films Hum, Kudah Ghawah and Agneepath was way beyond anything else could achieve. Maybe he shouldn't be classified as an all time great as his carer was short lived. But seeing some of the footage of the incomplete Dus - he could have been one the greatest.

I guess people define what is great to them from only what they have seen and liked in their time (ones own time is 'all time') - for me the some of Mukul Anand films will remain the greatest for me especially Agneeapth.
