The December 6th Releases
It seems that we are in for a battle royal this Idd. On December 6th, as of now, four major releases are scheduled to clash. Let us examine the prospects of the four scheduled releases.

Kaante, the "indianised" version of Reservoir Dogs seems to have a high chance of getting the best initial. The producers Raju Patel, Pritish Nandy and Sanjay Gupta are lucky in the sense that the music has not faded although it was released almost 5 months back. Kaante, shot exclusively in Los Angeles in just over a month boasts, of a large star cast.

However there are two negatives ,the heavy price of between 2.5-3 crores per major territory will take a while to be recovered and just a good initial won´t do. In addition, Sanjay Gupta has no hits to show till date, although all his previous flicks look excellent in promos they fail to make an impact at the Box Office. While the film has been postponed from as very far back as June 7th, this movie is unlikely to be postponed any further.

Rishtey is an Inder Kumar directed movie that has its roots in India and has been shot entirely in India. Both Inder Kumar and Anil Kapoor are going through a bad phase right now. Sold at prices varying from 1.5-1.75 crores in the major territories ,the movie has the least chance amongst the 4, especially if we add the box office potentials of the potential of the heroines, Karisma and Shilpa. If inside reports are to be believed, this movie is another one which will not be postponed.

Talaash, is a solo Akshay Kumar starrer, with Kareena for company. It is a movie that many believe is for the interiors. However unlike Jaanwar, this is a movie for the masses and classes. Priced heavily at around 2 crores in the major territories (negotiations are on to reduce the price to 1.75 -1.8 crores in at least 3-4 territories). It should be noted that this is the most expensive solo Akshay starrer to date and if he can pull this one he will be amongst the ´big boys´. This one is the dark horse according to me, but the truth of the matter is, Talaash may be postponed to 13th December.

Karz - The Burden of Truth, has Sunny Deol, Sunil Shetty and Shilpa Shetty. Keeping in mind Sunny´s tremendous pull in the interiors, North and Central India, this one is likely to take a good initial as well. Again like Kaante it has a few negatives, the two Shetty´s have always failed to ignite the Box Office together except for Dhadkan, but then they had Nadeem -Shravan´s blockbuster music and Akshay Kumar for company. The movie is heavily priced at around 2.5 crores per major territory and has to do well for two weeks at the very least. Also Sunny is not playing a patriotic character here unlike Gadar, Indian or Maa Tujhe Salaam. It is believed that the movie may be pre-poned to the last week of November as its soundtrack has already hit the marquee.

One hopes that all of the films do well, and while that is a far fetched dream, these factors presented above should at least be taken into consideration before these producers set themselves up for a bigger fall, not only for their films, but the industry as well.
