I'd like to check out 2 or 3 films in Tamil and/or Telugu, just out of curiousity. Anyone have a couple films they could recommend for starters?

Thanks,
Jeff

Oops. I see there's already a thread regarding Tamil films. How about some Telugu films?

What sort of movies do you want to watch? Without knowing that I will recommend the following movies which are available on DVD

1) Shiva (Ramgopal varma)
2) Kshana Kshanam (Ramgopal Varma)
3) Geetanjali (Maniratnam)

There are a lot of good films but unfortunately they are not available on good DVDs. The above are on good DVDs

Jeff,
As the recommendations are only limited to the good films that are done properly on DVD, we will have to limit our selections from EVP. EVP produces good interlaced dvd's as good as Ayngaran or even better. I second the list by Jag, very good movies, but not sure whether they have subtitles or not

I recommend Santhosham as one of the best dvd available in Telugh.

Unfortunately none of them have subtitles, atleast the copies I own. The first two are from EVP and Geetanjali is from KAD. I suppose Santosham is the only DVD thats good and has subtitles

Sankarabharanam is good, though perhaps it would be best to start with the ones mentioned. Also, there is Anthapuram, of which Shakti is a remake. I don't think the DVD has subtitles, though.
