I saw DVD listing "Oh Darling Yeh Hai India" at IW. Deepa Mehta is the lead actress. Is it the same Deepa Mehta of "Bollywood Hollywood" fame??

Her name is actually Deepa Sahi. And she was also seen in Amitabh Bachchan's HUM(I think she played Rajnikanth's wife). :oops:

.....and she is director Ketan Mehta's (MIRCH MASALA, PATEL, HOLI) wife in real life...has acted in lead roles in hubbie's movies such as MAYA MEMSAAB (a remake of MADAME BOUVARY).....she has also acted in tele serials such as NUKKAD in the eighties...

So, does it imply that "Oh Darling Yeh Hai India" lead actress is Deepa Sahi who married Ketan Mehta and is now known as Deepa Mehta, the same who made "Bollywood Hollywood"??

nope! Deepa Mehta who has directed Bollywood/Hollywood is an NRI & lives in Toronto. I remember watching a TV interview of her's a while back and she commented that her husband is 'white'. So Deepa Mehta & Deepa Sahi can't be the same people.

sorry...did not mean to imply that Sahi is now Mehta...i should have included the post above mine....in my reply....

Deepa Mehta and Deepa Sahi are 2 ENTIRELY different people....

And on a completely tangential note...has anyone here seen the 'Young Indiana Jones' episode(s) Deepa Mehta directed for Spielberg? I have never thought very highly of her film making skills....EARTH was above ordinary because of Aamir Khan's superb performance and a fairly engaging story, but otherwise her choice of script is pretty mediocre (FIRE)....have not seen 'Hollywood/Bollywwod' yet though....in any case just curious since she was hired by Spielberg so how that effort turned out....

Yes, Deepa Sahi (now mehta) and Deepa Mehta are two entirely different people. I've seen them both on TV and you can't mistake them, Deepa Sahi was pretty, while Deepa Mehta was ugly, Deepa Sahi has a soft voice, while Deepa Mehta has a deep masculine voice. :D

Anyway, one thing I'll never understand is why did Ketan Mehta make his wife do a nude sex scene with Shah Rukh in Maya? I think he married her after they done that film. Maybe he's one of those 'arty' types.

He also directed her in a film with Jackie Shroff (Aar Ya Paar) and I remember seeing her in an older film with Naseerudin Shah (Hero Hiralal). she also used to be in this serial that came on BBC2 in the late 80's - Srikant. It looks like she hasn't aged since then

They used a body double....
