BIG BOLLYWOOD STARS HAVE NO WORK!
Is there lack of work for industry's hottest talent?

It is almost unbelievable but sadly true. Many of the big stars in our industry hardly have much work on hand. Whether it is by choice or due to circumstances is another matter, but the fact remains that things are changing.

According to reports, while Shah Rukh is doing just one film (his home-production which earlier had Aishwarya), Salman has two (Bubby Kent's film and 'Tere Naam'; the remake of 'Sethu'). Hrithik has three films (Rajshri's 'Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon', Rakesh Roshan's 'Koi Mil Gaya' and Farhan Akhtar's 'Lakshya') in his kitty, while Aamir has none.

It is because of the kind of money that the stars are asking for," avers trade analyst Amod Mehra. "Today the market is very low. Money inflow is poor with even the music and overseas sales are going down," he adds.

So would slashing of prices and egos help? "Very much," says Anil Nagrath, director general, AMPTPP. "It will work because that is where the problem begins. We have to start working backwards. One has to work out the story, script and screenplay first. Then, after cleverly analyzing the market and viability of the project, tell the artiste what he will be paid. Even then if things just don't work out, then gradually the industry will have to go to a percentage system, which will actually work for everybody."

Viveck Vaswani (the walking-talking encyclopedia on our film industry) sums it all up with a punch - "With artificial star prices, in the last five years, many have done manmani and thought ke distributor mar jaaye to mar jaaye. To distributor mar gaya." And we all know that he can only be resurrected with 'quality movies', not just by the 'stars'. Cheer up… coz, for our industry, this is a new beginning.
