for pure entertainment value, i still have my hopes on hrithik. the man has acting ability and his dancing never lets him down no matter how crappy the movie is.

but jimmy shergil? that's a longshot. we'll see after khdbb.

one thing's for sure, if uday chopra had dreams (and/or his family) of being the next big thing in bollywood, he better do the smart thing and turn to directing. i mean, did they actually expect the audience to be HAPPY when he showed up in MDK? in the theatre i was in, it was more like "oh no, not him again."

I dunno, Jimmy Shergill seems to be going the Jackie Shroff way (just check him trying to dance in Hum Dono from Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai :D ). He's an ok actor, I guess he really needs to do some different roles - all he seems to be doing since Mohabbatein is the typical lover boy.

As for who will be the next Shah Rukh...............I'm not too sure - none of the newcomers seem to have their head stuck up their ass!!!!!

BUT, if the question is who's is gonna be the next star........methinks Arjun Rampal, Vivek Oberoi, or Aftab Shivdasani, but it's hard to tell, cos they've all done some crap films (apart from Vivek).

Who the hell wants to be the next Shah Rukh....he's crap!!!

OK, so at one time he was a good actor, but now he is the absolute definition of over-acting! I'd never put him up at the same level as Amitabh, Raj Kapoor or Dilip Kumar.

But I take it you're talking about 'star quality'. In that case I see nobody but maybe Arjun Rampal. Vivek Oberoi is good but he doesn't have that certain something to make it big. I can't see him holding a film on his own. Ajay Devgan is good but he's been in the industry for quite a while, if anyone is to make it they need to make it young and early in their careers.

buddy you have some major MAJOR issues!

no one could become srk becuz he has been a tremendously GREAT influence for the industry..

in terms of a person becoming immersed in his role, no one beats srk..

in terms of acting, no one does either..

and frankly, (considering your name) AKSHAY IS AN IDIOT, WHO HAS NEVER LEARNED HOW TO ACT IN HIS LIFE! HE FIRST OF ALL NEEDS THROAT SURGERY AND THEN NEEDS LESSONS IN ACTING!
:tounge:

*LOL* It looks like I've upset a Shah Rukh lover in here!

Look, I'm glad I've done that, cos I love winding up Shah Rukh fans!
:p
I agree that Shah Rukh has a great influence to the industry, but that's not down to acting, that's down to 'star quality'. He has good screen charisma and tries to make most of his films towards the interest of the masses. But as an actor, I don't think he's that great. Sure, he's given some memorable performances - Anjaam, Dil Se, Mohobbatein, Asoka but I still wouldn't put him up with the greats. The reason? Because at times he repeats himself, he only knows about 3 or 4 character roles and their characteristics keep cropping up at varying degrees in all his films. He OVERACTS which means some times you can see that he's trying too hard and it looks too over the top...for example the part in Asoka where he says to his younger brother "I've won Vitasoka" (In Hindi of course) look at his face, he looks like he's lost it for a second, he looks confused rather than triumphant.

Now when you compare him with the REAL actors (Amitabh, Dilip, Raaj Kumar, Naseerudin Shah) then Shah Rukh doen't stand a chance. Shah Rukh himself says he's a bad actor, but will continue to dominate bollywood. He's a big movie star that's all!

As for my name, I just decided to choose it as this forum is bollywood related and I saw it wasn't a name that's taken. I don't think much of Akshay Kumar either and also wouldn't say he's a great actor.

Out of the newcomers, the one with the most star potential (perhaps to equal that of SRK himself)? I would say Arjun Rampal.

Out of my favorites, Vivek Oberoi is going to be typecast too quickly, and will recieve a lot of Manoj Bajpai-type roles (that is to say, roles with superlative ability, but no star draw). That may chance with Sathiya though.

Arjun Rampal, on the other hand, even though his films have all been flops (one average performer: Aankhen), he has shown some great performances in more standard roles. Moksha and PIAM in particular, he did a great job. And he just might have the star pull; once he gets the right film that is.

On the other hand, Hrithik Roshan... who knows where he will end up? I like this guy, but who knows?

Abhishek Bachan? It'd be great (yes, I do like his acting), but it's not going to happen with the mediocre projects he's getting (though I felt OJJ was a pretty darn good film).

Aftab? Nah, he'll end up as an average star. He's not really a newcomer anymore.

Shah Rukh Khan is a much bigger star than an actor. Having said that, he isn't a bad actor at all, but he isn't a great one either. His star value has become immortal, people will always want to watch a 'Shah Rukh Khan' film, regardless if his overacting or not. To a certain extent, people always carry too much high expectations on Shah Rukh Khan acting abilities, and depending on ones views, he has either overacted or he was excellent. His star persona is possibly the best since Amitabh Bachchan. Most of his movies from the 90s has elevated the popularity of Bollywood films outside India. And quite possibly, in some areas outside India, Shah Rukh Khan is probably considered a bigger star than Amitabh Bachchan.

IMO..considering the overall image of Shah Rukh Khan till now, I would say the next Shah Rukh Khan is a toss up between Vivek Oberoi or Hrithik Roshan.
