I was just wondering, I am an American, I have seen some hindi movies, and was wondering why are Sikhs shown in a negative light? They are mocked and shown as being weak or goofy. Reality is, if you look throughout history, Sikhs have been brave warriors fighting injustice. I recently saw Mission: Kashmir, and the first scene of the movie the Sikh is shown as being not smart, peeing in his pants, and being cowardly. Reality would have been, the Sikh would be the one saving the person. Please someone explain to me what this is all about.

Thanks

This may be an exception. Normally, Sikhs are well respected and shown in heroic/ respectable roles. Recall Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Border, Gadar and many many others.

Are there any recent movies which show Sikhs in a positive light? The only one that comes to mind is Maachis.

In the movie Gadar, the main character wasn't a Sikh, because he had his hair cut, even though he wore a turban. And his assitant, who did have his hair and was a Sikh, was shown as an idiot. I prove my point again.

What about that guy in lagaan. He was ok. Scored some good runs, took a wicket and he was respected.
Not every sikh in the world is a hero you know. so what if there are a few incidents where they are not represented as strong tough characters?

Sikhs are well respected, and are known for their courage and loyalty and that is the reality
As a Hindu I have enormous respect and have many Sikh friends who I can trust with my life.
Don't get dishearten by these films.
