Simillarly, with DEEWANA mastana! are there two seperate versions, Yes boss and Virasat and Khamoshi too???

BTW! could some body comment on relative picture quality of these abovementioned titles!along with sound!! Which ones are better than other, or if all in same league!!

Plsss, comment on these, if u posssibly own these!

Thnx. :ffs: :baaa:

JUDWAA (bought recently) that I have is progressive (24 steps per sec) and the print is very good. Yes Boss and Deewana Mastana are in video mode (30 steps per sec).

Rana

I don't have scanner, but will post the other details tomorrow if someone hasn't already done so.

Raana! do u have JUDWAA with SD logo on that? Photo print of cover on Disc, and SUPER DIGITAL and Video sound on the Disc..But no SUB TITLES!!!Even Video sound web site dont claim, it to be sub titled!!

How do u compare, Virasat/Yes Boss and Deewana Mastana to this?

In my se up!! i find, picture quality of DEEWANA MASTANA superior to JUDWAA!!! Even 5.1 sound of JUDWAA is very lean, not much dynamic or FULL, compare to KOYLA/BICHOO /SORYVANSHAM etc!! ??? :baaa:

Does Yes Boss have true 5.1 sound, and if so, how is the quality?

I will add my comments tomorrow after checking it tonite. I must add that my comments usually favour Film mode DVDs even if Video mode DVD picture appeared better on interlaced displays.

Rana

P.S.
My initial impression: Playing JUDWAA on my PC indicated low bit rates. I don't understand it because the DVD is in Film mode. May be it's single layer? I will check it tonite on my DVD player. Audio wise, my ears aren't trained enough to compare, but it's audio on my PC (5.1) seemed good (5.1 @384KBPS as per indicator)

[/I must add that my comments usually favour Film mode DVDs even if Video mode DVD picture appears better on interlaced displays. ]

U might be right in other cases!? But I was watching DEEWANA MASTANA on HDTV/PROG SCAN COMPONENT VIDEO 480P connection with SONY PROG SCAN PLAYER!

I am not bragging yaar! But to my surprise DEEWANA MASTAANA had better ,grain fre even 3D picture! Sound was I think, Pseudo 5.i remastered from 2 channel, with songs it goes in all speakers but diologues are in front!!But it is more fuller with more Bass with it, than JUDWAA!! I am kinda confused my self! Is there any other way of comparson rana ji? plsss, keep us posted! :baaa:

If u have YES BOSS too, plss, let me know, how u compare with JUDWAA and DEEWANA MASTAANA!!?Cheers! and Many Thnx!

For Nath! If LADLA is like DEEWANA MASTANA! PQ, I'll buy it!

Observations from my copies:
JUDWAA is progressive but Single Layered and hence the bit rate is low (as low as 1 and as high as 9). For a single layered DVD, the picture is remarkably good.

Deewana Mastana and Yes Boss are both dual layered and have slightly better PQ (on interlaced displays) but are interlaced. On a progressive DVD-TV combo, JUDWAA PQ will be better than that of YB or DM.

Audio wise, all three DVD audio is indicated as DD 3/ 2.1 @ 384kbps. In all three of them .1 channel doesn’t show up as active as per the display.
DVD covers indicate:
Deewana Mastana = VS only = Dolby Digital 2 Ch
Yes Boss = VS only = Stereo AC3
JUDWAA = Super Digital and “distributed by VS” on cover, Super Digital & other info imprinted on DVD (No photo label on DVD; No mention of VS). Audio = DD 5.1 surround. Also, Super Digital is lightly imprinted in the picture throughout the movie.

I can’t judge which one is true 5.1 or not and which movie actually has true digital surround.

Also, JUDWAA and one of YB or DM (forgot which one) is horizontally squeezed as is normal in many of VS titles.

Arsh and Rana,
JUDWAA in VS songs 6 pack is in video mode so as Deewana Mastana. But I think Deewana Mastana looked better than JUDWAA with a detailed picture and solid colors. I am sure JUDWAA in film mode must look better than Deewana Mastana assuming the later is in video mode/interlaced.

I agree with u ganti! my apology to rana!! as i mentioned before, i am watching deewana mastana/judwaa both with PROG scan player!! and still, exactly as Ganti said, DEEWANA mastana picture, even if video/interlaced, more lively, solid and detailed and more 3Dimensional!!

Only I can add that i am using sony's latest prog scan dvd changer with pixel to pixel 2:3 pull down, deinterlacing, and have set it up on AUTO, to select whether material is in film or video mode!!

Now this whole buisness of Film vs video mode..appears kinda dodgy to me, as far final PQ is concerned! So, i dont know, Believe ur EYES or Frame count rates! lols!! :oo: :bangbang: :baaa:

I guess we have been calling a DVD as Film Mode DVD if the flags have been set properly, Video Mode otherwise.

99% of DVDs and even VHS of films, really have only 24 frames per second. The only thing is in most of the Indian DVDs the 2-3 sequence is not marked (flags) or there is noise between two repeated frames due to repeated camera click for the repeated frame.
If a de-interlacer can detect these 24 original frames, then the indicator light shows it as Film Mode, otherwise it assumes it Video Mode. This implies that one Prog. DVD player may indicate a DVD to be Film mode and another DVD player, that fails to detect the clues, will indicate it Video Mode. Detecting 2-3 sequence is the most difficult part (Film to PAL and then to NTSC or PAL to NTSC conversion is even more complicated to detect but can be detected by certain chips; I have seen a line doubler costing less than $1000 that can do this). Rest is easy.

You said, your DVD player’s de-interlacer is using pixel-by-pixel comparison to detect the repeated frames (it must have been set to ignore some noise/ variation in picture; depending on the noise setting for ignoring, even a frame from Star Wars could be detected as the same frame as from Disney's Snowhite) and I guess it succeeds. If it has an indicator light, it should show Film Mode. Even for a Video signal (60 distinct half frames) good de-interlacers/ line doublers can do an excellent job, but the picture is a computed (interpolated) picture. Note that past the line doubling, line quadrupling or scaling to higher resolutions (e.g. 1920 x 1440) are all achieved by computing the picture.

Does your DVD player have "FILM MODE" and "VIDEO MODE" indicator lights??

BTW, 2 years back, I thought, only the $4000 Panasonic player had them. As sknath mentioned, his $300 JVC has that indicator light. Yesterday I went to a store to see if Hitachi (Prog. DVD) had these indicator lights. It did not.

If it is true that only JVC Prog. DVD player has these indicator lights, it reminds me that some 15 months back I told a JVC factory rep. that I will buy a Prog. scan DVD player only if it had these indicator lights. Looks like he passed it on.

Rana

P.S.
By now, these indicator lights are not that important any more as thanks to sknath, counting # of steps gives much more info. about the picture.
