I have been looking all over for all his releases, especially the Apu Trilogy, but no luck. Is there any place that sells them? Or should I just work on transferring old VHS prints to DVD and watching those?

Here is a review of Jalsaghar on DVD. It doesn't look very good. It is a French disc.

Whatever happened to the the very expensive "Satyajeet Films Restoration Project" in the US?? I read it somewhere, perhaps in zulm forums. If SR movies are being restored and preserved, Hollywood Standard DVDs should not be far behind.

Columbia released 9 restored VHS tapes of the following of Ray's films:

Apu Trilogy
Jalsaghar
Charulata
Mahanagar
Teen Kanya (with one of the three stories omitted)
Jana Aranya
Devi

Unfortunately, a fire in a London archive claimed some, if not all, of the original negatives of the above films. I'll try to find the article that says this. I don't believe Columbia released any of these films on LaserDisc, either, probably because the first tapes were released in 1996, when Sony USA was phasing out LD production.

Columbia Tristar own the DVD rights to Ray's Apu Trilogy. I use to have this one link that said that Columbia Pictures don't have any plans on producing Ray's famous Apu Trilogy on DVD as yet. However, on the positive side, Ray's Nayak & Joi Baba Felunath are now available on DVD.

Collector, have you seen the discs of Nayak and Joi Baba Felunath? I'm not expecting great quality here.

The last flick you mentioned here was it "Debi Chaudhrani".
I've seen all except Mahanagar & Teen Kanya."Apu'r Sansar" stands out vividly in my mind. Any chance these will be released on DVD in the near future. These B******s will release everything except classics like these.

I don't know if it was ever titled "Debi Chaudhrani." The plotline of "Devi" was that Sharmila Tagore's father-in-law is a very religious man and sees in a dream that Sharmila is the incarnation of goddess Devi.
