IANS [ THURSDAY, AUGUST 22, 2002 1:39:21 PM ] MUMBAI: After being immortalised as Paro in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas, what's Aishwarya Rai up to? Dancing for her Devdas co-star Shah Rukh Khan, for one!
Not only that, the duo has now been signed up for nearly five films.
The former Miss World spent a large part of last week dancing for Shah Rukh in director Vamsi's Shakti that is expected to resurrect Karisma Kapoor's career in a big way.
Aishwarya appears in a dance in a dream sequence in Shakti. Shah Rukh plays Aishwarya's fan.
The song, choreographed by Shah Rukh's friend Farha Khan, is part of the actor's 'extended guest appearance'. Incidentally, this is Shah Rukh's second guest appearance this year. He and Tabu are playing husband and wife in guest appearances in Shaad Ali's Saathiya.
This is Aishwarya's third guest appearance this year. She appeared for a song with Bobby Deol in Guddu Dhanoa's 23rd Match 1931 - Shaheed and also with Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan in Adhiyaman's Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam.
After the success of Devdas, the duo is also expected to be signed for Karan Johar's next which he's currently scripting.
They will also be seen in Karan Johar's associate director Nikhil Advani's love triangle. Earlier, Advani's film was to star Kareena Kapoor with Shah Rukh.
But industry sources say with the Shah Rukh-Kareena pair coming a cropper in Asoka and the Shah Rukh-Aishwarya pair creating history in Devdas, the cast underwent a revision.
If reports are to be believed this isn't the only project from which Aishwarya has eased Kareena out. Apparently, Aishwarya has also replaced Kareena from her dream project -- a film being directed by Yash Chopra in which she was looking forward to being presented as a typical Yash Chopra heroine.
Aishwarya is also doing Shah Rukh's home production to be directed by Aziz Mirza of Yes Boss fame.
But an interesting aspect of the pair is that they have never played conventional lovers on screen who get together at the end of the film.
The two played lovers in Mohabbatein, but she was a ghost and he her forlorn lover. In Josh, she played his sister, in Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam she was paired with Salman. In Devdas, they were star-crossed lovers who are separated after she gets married to a rich man and he drowns himself in alcohol.
In Shakti too, their screen pair portrays unfulfilled love and yearning.
