Netpac and Youth Award for Mr. & Mrs. Iyer. Audience Award for Bend It Like Beckham!!!!! :baaa: : :baaa: ;)

There were 30 films on show dating from Sholay and onto today, with the world premiere of Mrinal Sen’s Aamaar Bhuwan. Every screening of the Indian films ran to packed houses. Some had queues waiting outside for a possible second screening - for Muzaffar Ali’s Umrao Jaan in partiular.

In addition to the Indian Summer retrospective, there were the two Indian films in competition - and select short films that connected mainly with Arundhati Roy as she dominated the festival’s first five days. The films she stars in and wrote an award-winning screenplay for, “In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones” was in the Indian Summer package besides two documentaries linked to her work. The director of the Locarno festival, Irene Bignardi, invited as many Indians as possible from various walks of life connected with the country’s cinema. Rarely has such a huge presence of Indian film professionals gathered at one festival venue. Leading them all was Aamir Khan on the main Competition jury.
