Na Tum Jaano Na Hum Review Question

I think Michael reviewed this DVD.

The transfer does not provide a clean progressive picture. A frame by frame analysis shows that 3 correct video frames are followed by two mixed together from two film frames. Nonetheless when watched with a good video processor that has robust 2:3 pull down reversal and good de-interlacing motion artifacts are not a big problem. The pictures look pretty progressive although somewhat soft.

Could you please explain further?

In such a case:

1) Would a good video processor be able to weave the video fields together to give the original film frames?
2) If yes, are there other Indian DVDs like this?
3) If no, will a good video processor achieve as good de-interlacing, from other EROS/ VS DVDs, as on NTJNH?

Thanks.

While a final verdict is out I have changed my mind
regarding this DVD based on comments from a fellow
DVD reviewer. I'm now inclined to believe that the
mixed frames are the work of the software player PowerDVD
and not on the DVD in this form. But the DVD does definitely
not output a clean 2:3 pulldown since the software player
can not retrive the frames properly. The flags are
incorrectly set, it seems. A progressive player and
line doublers that analyse the picture and do not depend
on flags seem to be able to create a clean progressive
picture. The DVD looks progressive via my Faroudja.

Thanks Michel.

Does it mean that Faroudja can detect the original frames and then weaves the video fields together to create the original film frames, as opposed to "motion analysis to create new progressive video frames".

Do other EROS, VS, Yashraj DVDs fall into this category where the flags are not set (may be this is what we have been calling interlaced DVD) but the video fields can be weaved together to create the original film frames back.

Ok Rana,
Time to do some testing. I have a player DVD-RP56 that contains the Faroudja FLI2200 de-interlacing chip. I don’t use this palyer as my HTPC produces better images than this. But I will give a try with some of the EVP and EROS dvd’s I have and I will try to rent the dvd in question and let you know the findings.
