Lately I noticed that the number of posts at zulm is much less than what it used to be a year ago. Am I right about this? Or, maybe it's because we don't have OTHER forum anymore :p !

Lately, I hardly find any good Hindi movies and even when there are good ones we get lousy DVDs from EROS or VideoSound ! Thanks to Columbia TriStar for a brief rescue and I hope the stories about DEI are not true.

Looks like only Tamil people are fortunate to have quality DVDs. Telugu is (un?)fortunate to have EVP but they are tooooooo slow in releasing DVDs. EVP has rights to 100s of telugu movies but there is no hope of seeing any releases in near future.

I love my DVD collection. Can't say I'm proud of the Indian DVDs and when I started out I used to have more Indian DVDs than English, but the English DVDs far exceed the Indian ones know. What I'm saying is that if you love DVDs, and have an English collection then its still great. I don't think there is much hope in the near future for Indian DVDs to get better, and with the ability to burn DVDs coming up, it will get worse. These EROS bums won't even bother spending the time they are right now and the quality will really go down. So I say just buy selectively. For example you have to have something like Aks in your DVD collection if your an Amitabh fan like me and love his acting even though its a horrid DVD from Eros.

Don't lose hope! As long as Zulm is there to educate the clueless desis on piracy and boycotting bad dvds then I am sure Eros has to close shop one day.

I don’t want to condone Piracy but
PIRATES ARE OUR ONLY HOPE LEFT.
It is up to zulm and other quality conscious people to spread the word about those DVDs that are much better than their legit releases. Mostly the pirates are worst than their legit versions but there are hundreds (out of tens of thousands) of Indian Film DVDs that are better than their legit versions.

For example:
DEI-EROS
SHEMAROO (GSP as per sknath’s def.)
DEI
R2 releases playable in R1 and vice versa.

Rana

P.S.
If you define Piracy as cheating, then all VHS quality DVDs sold as DVDs can be classified as PIRATE even though they may be legit.

I agree with Ali. Already lost hope. Now I just get stuff that I want if it is cheap knowing that the quality is going to suck. Indian DVDs are inferior in every way, sound, video, packaging to other DVDs. The only saving grace is if new films get picked up by American companies and even then we don't get the kind of packaging etc that we get from some of the other releases from these studios. Look at Lagaan.

I think I am only interested in collecting non-hindi films now.

I've lost hope. :( No wonder why my money is going into my english dvd collection. Even HK DVDs have improved.

Indian dvds are probably the crappest. HK spain france germany england usa canada are way far ahead. What has happened to hard working asians? Becoming so lazy that they cant produce even decent quality dvds. A minor hollywood b movie dvd such as spiders which costs like £4 has a ten times better transfer than the best hindi movies like HAHK and DDLJ etc. I think we should all buy pirates. They are better quality and cost much less. Damn those as*holes if they cant produce a decent dvd.

I too am buying lots more English DVDs. I made my most recent Indian DVD purchase in April or May. I just hope that BEI is for real. Maybe then we will get some quality DVDs, because we sure cannot rely on the likes of Eros, Yash Raj, or Video Sound to produce decent DVDs.

OTOH, now might be a good time to start watching Tamil films released on DVD by Ayngaran :)

Yeah they have gone downhill. But are there really any pirated discs that are better? I havent seen any till now. Could people list pirated disks here which are better than the original?

I watched the pirated dvd of Lagaan when it was released a few months ago and man,o' man was it ever a piece of shit recording. The sound kept jumping between the front & rear speakers. All the pirated versions I have watched so far have been a let down both audio & video. It's up to the Zulmi's to pressure Eros and the likes to improve the quality. One of the biggest drawbacks of DD5.1( as also with the previous Dolby prologic) is the absence of continous sound from the rear channels, but if you watch 'Impostor" you will find a very rich blend of all 5 channels + Sub. The biggest drawback with Indian DVD's is the continous sudden switch of rich full sound to hollow flat sound, which goes on and off for the entire duration of the DVD.One thing does stand out that by comparison the originals are a notch better than the pirated version. The question being how much of a notch better

Jag.. all the DEI-EROS titles which have corresponding EROS-B4U releases are pirates...but they are of better quality always ( as they are progressive in nature)..

All Shemaroo (the Genuine Shemaroo Pirates) titles (notably the RK films titles) are all pirates in North America but they are superioro when compared with the genuine prints of these releases from YashRaj .. :D

I cant think of any others right now

All DEI titles, cross released with Videosound are pirates in North America but are again much superiror

And, don't forget Metrodome ASOKA that is illegal to be sold in North America, is illegal to be shipped to North America and also illegal to watch in North America. Any reviewer can tell Metrodome ASOKA is way better than it's NTSC to PAL converted copy that we are supposed to be watching in North America.

Thans sknath. I already know of the DEI prints. I have most of them. It didnt cross my mind that they are technically piaretd disks.

Looks like we dont really have any disks that are made by no name manufacturers that are better than the originals (as bad as they are)

Are the Shemaroo title available at indiaweekly? What titles are available under this brand?

Technically of course, DEi, Shemaroo and Metrodome are pirates in U.S but we are talking about actual pirates who don't even put their company's name on the dvd or worse some other company's name.
