Hi all,

I drove by my 18 screen multiplex today and what do I see on the marquee? DEVDAS!!!

Very strange that it is first, playing at this multiplex which never shows foreign movie and second, that it opened last Friday and there hasn't been one ad in the newspaper or review for it. I read that page every day and didn't even know it was playing until I drove by it.

The bad thing is, it ends tonight and I don't think I am going to be able to get to see it.

But still, good to see Bollywood playing out here in suburbia. LAGAAN never even played in the art theatres making this a first.

I'm in Massachusetts.

I didn't know, it has running in my backyard too. (170 Km is much closer than 450 Km where I drove to see it). After reading this thread, I searched for Devdas and AMC theatres and one of the results shows it playing in Montreal AMC, 3 shows daily.

Obviously it hasn't been advertized.

On the other hand, Multiplex strategy is that "you come to the complex and choose among many choices". Obviously they don't favour one movie over the other.

It is upto the movie distributors to advertize.

It looks like AMC has picked up this movie for their inventory. I am sure Devdas must be or will be running in other AMC theatres in other cities as well.
So check it out for a Big Screen Big Sound presentation.

I actually was able to make it to see DEVDAS last night. It looks like Eros is doing the distribution for this in the US. The film opened with an ad for http://www.erosentertainment.com and B4UTV. How they managed to get this one in the regular multiplexes is quite an accomplishment.

The film looked amazing. The first Bollywood film I have seen on the big screen. The production design, costumes and photography were beautiful.

I can't say it is one of the best films I have seen. A bit slow at times and with a couple exceptions, the musical numbers weren't all that memorable.

Still, I'm glad I got to see it.
