Okay so I'm pleased there coming out with a second version of Amadeus on DVD on Sept.24 (its a directors cut, 2 disc edition), but I hate forking out twice the money...I already paid a bit for the first Amadeus DVD. Agreed it wasn't exactly the best but this really gets me thinking as to WHY waste money on classics you know there going to release as special editions. Amadeus is an excellent example. Its a brilliant film worth every penny spent on the special edition, you actually want all the bells and whistles (the extra footage, the directors commentary, etc.) but if I had known they were going to release it in Sept. of 2002 I wouldn't have bought the bloody inferior version before with just the movie (can't even jump to the scenes properly); on top of that the original is a flipper disc (remember those where you had to flip the bloody disc to get the other half of the movie, I think Raja Hindustani was originally a flipper too).

Therefore I'm not in favor of buying Lord of the Rings right now, its pointless. The studio even has the gall to ADVERTISE the four disc special edition on the two disc version, come on, that's like asking you to pick a candy out of a basket AND slapping you in the face for choosing too soon. ENOUGH. No more purchases for me unless I am 110% sure that the special edition isn't around the corner. I think my next buy will be the Back to the Future trilogy in December (YES DECEMBER), at least they won't come out with a special edition of that, they wasted enough time coming out with just those movies on DVD and the description at amazon says it comes with the director's commentary, interviews and everything.

I agree with you about them coming with the same movie or titles 2-3 times but in reference to LOTR check out this thread and little comment somebody on thier forum made:

If the extras from the August 6th release were to be included on the director's edition then it would have been a five disc set and New Line didn't want to do that.

The 3rd and 4th bonus discs in the November set are packed and there was no more bit space for further extras. New Line wasn't even going to originally offer anything on the August 6th two disc set until they decided it would be good to throw some exclusives on it. Be thankful that they bothered when they weren't going to. Go to a Fry's or Best Buy a week from tomorrow and i'll bet that you'll be able to pick it up for around $15 to $17 dollars. That'll soften the blow until November.

Probably you have been to this site but click the below link for the thread on LOTR 2/4 disc :

Which Version of "The Lord of the Rings"

Amadeus is one of my all time favorite movies and I for one welcome this new edition considering the first one was a flipper and was also non anamorphic (if I remember correctly). The only dissapointing thing about this new DVD release of Amadeus is that it is not presented with a DTS track. Can you imagine the wonderful score in DTS. Damn you Warner.
